Will Man City Challenge The Big Four This Season?

Brian JohnsonAug 8, 2009

As the start of the upcoming season is a matter of days away, the question remains, will Manchester City challenge for the EPL title or top four finish?

In my eyes, at first glance the team Mark Hughes has managed to assemble looks as if they could challenge for the title, but close examination of the team in my estimation is that the team is lacking in defense and central midfield.

Which is probably why the attempt was made to acquire John Terry but as we know they were unsuccessful in that bid and so Kolo Toure was brought in, I must say that I was disappointed with the sale of Toure to Man City but I guess Arsene has to fund his purchasing of players from the sale of players, and a decision had to be taken and that's that.

However the strike force is impressive and I believe Bellamy and Adebayor will find themselves sidelined if a 4-4-2 formation is used, however if a 4-3-3 is used I can see Adebayor breaking into the team.

I must say SAF seems to be too confident ahead of the season—I am willing to bet they will finished 3rd this season with Chelsea and Arsenal fighting for the top spot.

First he dismissed Man City, which maybe I agree with, but dismissing Liverpool is pure nonsense after the run for there money they got last season.

All in all I do believe Man City can break in but it would take excellent managerial skills which I don't believe Mark Hughes possesses. If I were to pick a starting team from the squad at his disposal I would use a 4-3-3 formation as I believe this is the only way to keep the team together.

Zabaleta    Toure    Dunne       Bridge

Wright-Phillips   Barry      Petrov

     Robinho   Tevez    Adebayor

I think it will be difficult for Mark Hughes to choose the right striker for the right side of the field.

It's difficult seeing this team winning the EPL.

I am willing to bet that this team will get more than 60 points this season.

In closing I believe the Big Four will remind unchanged this season. Maybe next season.
