Louisville vs. UNC: Live Score, Highlights and Reaction

Brian PedersenJan 10, 2015

Marcus Paige hit a running layup high off the glass with 8.5 seconds left to give 18th-ranked North Carolina a 72-71 home win over No. 5 Louisville on Saturday afternoon.

The Tar Heels (12-4, 2-1 ACC) bounced back from a one-point home loss to Notre Dame on Monday by rallying from down 13 points in the second half. Paige made only one of his first eight shots but finished with 10 points, hitting three of his final four, and also assisted on a Brice Johnson basket that gave UNC a 70-69 lead with less than 40 seconds left.

Terry Rozier, who led all scorers with 25, gave the Cardinals (14-2, 2-1) a 71-70 lead with 28 seconds left, but his desperation fallaway after an offensive rebound in the final seconds was no good. That came after Wayne Blackshear missed on a three-pointer from the baseline.

The game was tied at 34, with UNC relying on offensive rebounding to make up for poor shooting. Louisville's defense forced a slew of turnovers early in the second half to build a 63-50 lead with 8:39 left, but then the Cardinals' shooting went cold.

Louisville finished shoot 46.7 percent from the field, with Rozier making 10 of 20 shots and Chris Jones (who had 19) going 8 of 13 from the field. Montrezl Harrell had nine points and five rebounds, making only 4 of 10 shots.

UNC was led in scoring by Kennedy Meeks, who had 13, while Johnson had 11 points and 11 rebounds. Tokoto and Paige each had 10, with Tokoto also adding four rebounds and five assists.

Louisville coach Rick Pitino is not 0-6 all-time against North Carolina, but this was the teams' first meeting as ACC opponents.
