Browns Reportedly Re-Sign Cameron

Thursday, March 12

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Cameron has agreed to re-sign with the Browns on a two-year, $15 million deal. ESPN's Adam Schefter confirmed the news.

Andrew Abramson of The Palm Beach Post reported earlier on Thursday that Cameron was meeting with the Dolphins. Rapoport noted there was "a lot of mutual interest," though the Browns and other teams were "in the mix."

Abramson later provided comments from Mike Tannenbaum on Cameron and his injury history:

"

Tannenbaum understands the concussion concerns but he also knows that Miami has the opportunity to sign Cameron to an affordable deal.

“In free agency you have players come in and you can obviously give them physicals and talk to your experts,” Tannenbaum said.

“You can say, ‘Wow, three concussions, we should stay away.’ But in my experience sometimes those are opportunities because if your experts feel differently than what the perception is, sometimes that’s the best time to be opportunistic.”

"

On March 10, Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald reported that "the Miami Dolphins have set their sights on a possible replacement by focusing on Cleveland Browns free agent Jordan Cameron."

Cameron Reportedly Wants Out of Cleveland

Wednesday, Feb. 4

Interest in Cameron on the open market should run strong due to his game-changing receiving ability. CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reported that Cameron "is not interested in returning to Cleveland," per sources.

Cameron had a breakout 2013 campaign with 80 receptions for 917 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 games. However, injuries plagued him this last year, limiting him to 10 games and 24 catches. He also suffered his third concussion in less than a two-year span.

"We'll see," said Cameron of a potential return to the Browns, via Fox Sports Ohio's Fred Greetham on Dec. 28. "There are a lot of things that have to go into it. It's not just me wanting to come back. There are a lot of situations that have to go in my favor. I really haven't given it a lot of thought. It's really up in the air."

Inconsistent productivity and Cameron's injury history may knock down his free-agent price tag. That may wind up benefiting the Browns most if they want Cameron to return, since Cleveland has plenty of cap room to play with.

One can hardly blame Cameron for exploring his options, though.

The Browns' quarterback situation is still unsettled, what with Brian Hoyer now in Houston and Johnny Manziel's underwhelming performance toward the end of the season. A change of scenery therefore would have made sense for Cameron.

With the turbulence Cleveland has experienced under center, Cameron could have gone to a team with an established signal-caller or at least start somewhere with a clean slate. Such a situation would have allowed him to develop chemistry with just one QB and get back on course to emulating his 2013 virtuosity.

Ultimately he felt returning to the Browns was his best option, though. If he can stay healthy, he should be an asset for whoever is under center in 2015.
