Kansas vs. Baylor: Live Score, Highlights and Reaction

Brian PedersenJan 7, 2015

Kansas opened its quest for an 11th straight Big 12 regular-season title with a 56-55 win Wednesday night at Baylor, rallying from a five-point second half deficit.

The 12th-ranked Jayhawks (12-2, 1-0) trailed 22-18 at the half and was down 41-36 with less than 10 minutes left before taking over. A quick 5-0 run tied it, and after going back and forth for several minutes Kansas went up 52-49 on a Wayne Selden three-pointer with 2:15 left and never trailed.

The final moments included several missed opportunities for No. 21 Baylor (11-3, 0-2), missing a pair of layups and also turning the ball over underneath its own basket with 8.5 seconds left. Kansas' Frank Mason then missed the front end of a one-and-one with 3.6 seconds left, but the Bears never got off a shot as they wasted too much time bringing the ball up the court.

It was Kansas' 24th consecutive win in its Big 12 opener, with Jamari Traylor leading the way with a team-high 13 points. However, Traylor fouled out with more than five minutes left, putting Selden and Mason in the role of leaders. Brannen Greene had 12 points, while Mason had 11. Selden had nine, including the go-ahead three.

Baylor was led by Kenny Chery's 25 points, including two free throws with six seconds left. He made 8 of 14 shots, including 4 of 7 from three-point range, but the rest of Baylor's players were 10 of 39 from the field.

Rico Gathers added nine points and 13 points for the Bears, doing so on his 21st birthday.
