South Carolina vs. Iowa State: Score, Twitter Reaction for Gamecocks' Upset Win
Iowa State lost its second game of the year to an unranked opponent. The Cyclones fell 64-60 to the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday night inside Brooklyn, New York's Barclays Center.
Throughout the 2014-15 season, Iowa State has built much of its success through its play on the offensive end. Entering Saturday, the Cyclones averaged 84.5 points per game (10th in the country) on 50.6 percent shooting (ninth). Their ball movement has been second to none, with the team ranking first in both team assists and assist-to-turnover ratio.
On Saturday, that efficient offense was nowhere to be seen. South Carolina held ISU to 20-of-57 shooting from the floor, including 1-of-18 from behind the arc. Jeff from Basketball Predictions highlighted how three-point shooting decided this game:

Iowa State also turned the ball over 13 times, dishing out eight assists.
Georges Niang, the Cyclones' leading scorer this year at 16.1 points per game, really struggled, shooting 3-of-13 with 10 points and eight rebounds. Travis Hines of the Ames Tribune pointed out how Niang went cold for large stretches of the game:
Bryce Dejean-Jones, who averages 15.2 points per game, was even worse. He scored three points, all of which came on a solitary bucket from long range.
Duane Notice led the Gamecocks in scoring with 15 points. Tyrone Johnson and Sindarius Thornwell were right behind him with 13 points apiece.
South Carolina has proved to be a thorn in the side of the Big 12, having beaten Oklahoma State earlier in the year and nearly doing the same to Baylor.
ESPN.com's Myron Medcalf believes this victory is a sign that Frank Martin's team is on the rise:
Beyond the unbeaten Kentucky Wildcats, the SEC is pretty wide open. There's no reason why the Gamecocks can't be right around second or third in the conference this year. They kick off conference play next Wednesday against Florida.
Jeff Borzello of ESPN.com thinks that game is another golden opportunity for South Carolina:
For Iowa State, this was simply a bad day at the office. The Cyclones aren't going to shoot the ball that badly for a long time. They'll need to put this loss behind them quickly because they play Oklahoma State next Tuesday before a three-game stretch that features West Virginia, Baylor and Kansas.
