Sterling Gibbs led the offensive charge for the Pirates with 20 points. Khadeen Carrington added 17 off the bench while Brandon Mobley scored 10 points to go along with six rebounds and four blocks as they handed the Wildcats (13-1) their first loss of the season.
Daniel Ochefu had 19 points and 24 rebounds in the losing effort.
It's nothing to get overly concerned about for Villanova. It shot just 31 percent from the field and still managed to force overtime against a solid Seton Hall squad. If anything, it showcases the dangers of playing just one true road game during the nonconference schedule.
As for the Pirates, if there were any doubts concerning their strong start, they have been eliminated this week. Two wins over ranked foes to start conference play make a major statement. That said, they will be tested again by Xavier on the road their next time out.
