John Idzik Rumors: Latest Buzz, Speculation Surrounding Former Jets GM
After limping to a 4-12 season the New York Jets fired general manager John Idzik.
Jets owner Woody Johnson announced the decision on the team website:
"After extensive thought and reflection about the current state of our football team, this morning I informed Rex Ryan and John Idzik that they will not be returning for the 2015 season. Both Rex and John made significant contributions to the team, and they have my appreciation and gratitude for their efforts and commitment. Over the years, Rex brought the Jets a bold confidence and a couple of great post-season runs, which all of us will remember.
I am beginning our search for new football leadership, effective immediately, with guidance and support from respected football experts, including Charley Casserly and Ron Wolf, two Super Bowl winners with decades of valuable experience.
We will consider all options to improve the Jets.
Getting the Jets back on track is my top priority, and today’s decisions are important steps towards achieving our goals.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports first reported Idzik was expected to be fired prior to the team's Week 17 victory against the Dolphins:
"The Jets are parting with [Rex] Ryan, and, league sources said, general manager John Idzik as well, with owner Woody Johnson already bringing in consultants to help with that process. Former NFL general manager Charley Casserly is among them—he is very high on [Todd] Bowles—and [Jim Mora Jr.] is also viewed as a very strong candidate within that organization, sources said.
On the GM side, Houston scouting director Mike Maccagnan has long ties to Casserly, while the team is also expected to interview Minnesota assistant general manager George Paton, Browns assistant general manager Morocco Brown, Houston director of pro personnel Brian Gaine among others.
"
Ian Rapoport of NFL.com has more potential candidates for the general manager gig:
Idzik's tenure as New York's general manager was marked by questionable decisions.
Neither quarterback he acquired—Geno Smith in the draft, Michael Vick via free agency—have played well this season. While he did draft Sheldon Richardson, this year's draft class made very little impact. Trading for Percy Harvin this season never seemed to work out, as Harvin disappointed. And the team went into the season with poor cornerbacks, a major weakness for a Ryan defense renowned for an aggressive, blitzing scheme.
It's clear that after a disappointing season, the Jets needed to clean house and start anew. Unfortunately for Idzik, that meant his tenure in New York had come to a close.
