Philadelphia 76ers vs. Miami Heat: Live Score, Highlights and Reaction
It was a tale of two halves for the Philadelphia 76ers, Tuesday night against the Miami Heat, as they overcame a 23-point deficit in the fourth quarter to steal a 91-87 victory on the road.
Led by Michael Carter-Williams' 20 points, five assists and six steals, the Sixers—who claim the NBA's worst record—managed to move past a horrid first half in which Miami seemingly scored at will. After the Heat jumped out to an early third-quarter lead, Philadelphia rolled out a full-court press that stifled Miami's offense, creating turnovers and transition opportunities for a 76ers team that never looked back.
Finishing with a season-high 22 turnovers, the Heat managed just nine points in the final quarter during their late-game collapse.
Dwyane Wade logged a game-high 23 points for Miami, but scored just six in the second half. Shawne Williams added 17, with 12 coming out of the halftime break as the Heat jumped out to their 23-point lead.
All Miami success was unsustainable, though, and Philadelphia overcame all odds—they were on the road, dressed just eight players and entered the game with the league's worst record—to win their second-straight game for the first time this year.
Veteran Luc Richard Mbah a Moute added 19 points including a couple of clutch buckets down the stretch to pace Philly to the victory. K.J. McDaniels added 13, highlighted by a trio of highlight-reel dunks, while Robert Covington finished with 11, including the free throws that iced the game in the closing seconds.
It was a performance most unexpected by Philadelphia, but one that they'll hope to build off as they attempt to avoid complete embarrassment in a season that has brought nothing but. They'll test their luck against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday as they attempt to win their third straight, while Miami—presumably after a long film session—will attempt to rebound on Christmas against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
