Andy Murray edged a frantic battle against Nick Kyrgios to seal the Manila Mavericks' first-ever International Premier Tennis League victory on Sunday, a 27-19 win over the Singapore Slammers.
Nineteen-year-old Kyrgios was audacious in attempting to overthrow his opponent after Tomas Berdych was pulled out of the fixture. After taking matters to a shootout, the Australia may even be considered unfortunate to not have won.
However, Murray built on the singles victory of Mark Philippoussis earlier in the day to mark a prestigious maiden win for his team on home soil.
Philippoussis got the better of his veteran Slammers counterpart Patrick Rafter in a 6-2 mauling, but Serena Williams helped pull that particular margin back with her own victory, beating Kirsten Flipkens 6-3.
Where Sunday's result was really decided, however, was in the doubles. Murray and Flipkens teamed up to dominate Williams and her partner Lleyton Hewitt 6-1.
It was to be a miserable day for Hewitt, too, as despite his best efforts alongside Berdych, he suffered another doubles defeat against Treat Huey and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
Sunday's early action produced a table-altering display from the Indian Aces, who handed the UAE Royals their first defeat of the International Premier Tennis League with a 28-20 triumph.
Ana Ivanovic was the only member of the Aces team to fall on Day 3 in the Philippines. A 6-4 loss to Kristina Mladenovic proved her first stumble after victories against Daniela Hantuchova and Maria Sharapova already this weekend.
France's Gael Monfils was in fine form for the Indian franchise, opening the men's singles with a 6-3 win over Cilic and maintaining his spot as something of a crowd favourite in the IPTL.
That proved to be the largest margin of victory in Sunday's opening session and came before Monfils linked up with Rohan Bopanna to defeat Cilic once more, this time in doubles competition.
Bopanna's mixed doubles win alongside Sania Mirza ensured the Indian pair maintained their winning streak as a combination in Manila. Mladenovic combined with Nenad Zimonjic in an effort to depose the dominant pair, but failed to destabilise their foes' wonderful synchronicity en route to a 6-4 loss.

It was a day of shootouts in the International Premier League. The UAE Royals continued their early dominance one day after getting the better of Andy Murray and the Manila Mavericks.
The highlight of the early matches was undoubtedly the tense tilt between Goran Ivanisevic and Pat Rafter. The former used his powerful service game to eventually outlast the game and veteran Australian.
Ivanisevic hit three aces, while the power and trajectory of his serve constantly kept 41-year-old Rafter guessing and scrambling along the baseline. By contrast, Rafter stayed faithful to his array of volleys and won 16 points at the net.
Ultimately though, it wasn't enough to deny Ivanisevic. His win, combined with Marin Cilic proving his upset over Murray on the opening day was no fluke, meant the Royals took the overall match by a comfortable 28-22 score.
Following that thrilling match, another highlight was provided by Andy Murray suffering his second defeat in as many days. The highly regarded Scot was bested by Frenchman Gael Monfils.
He used a game based on a series of powerful forehand shots to register a key victory for the Micromax Indian Aces. Monfils broke serve with Murray leading 4-3, before winning out 6-4.
It meant the Mavericks have now endured two losses to start the competition.

Recap
Andy Murray did his best to salvage what would have been a dramatic win for the Manila Mavericks on Friday, but the Scot fell to Marin Cilic 6-5 in the final fixture to cap off a disappointing result for the home team.
Cilic's triumph secured an overall 29-24 win for the UAE Royals.
He had to beat his Croatian counterpart by four games in order to make up for earlier mistakes, but that proved too much of a task after Cilic broke serve and sailed into a 3-1 lead.
Murray came back into the fray and managed to recover his serve before forcing a shootout, where Cilic was successful in holding off his foe's late assault.
Maria Sharapova had helped the Mavericks back into their match with a memorable comeback victory over Kristina Mladenovic, beating her Royals counterpart 6-5 after a shootout was needed to decide a victor.
The Russian suffered from a mid-match lull and found herself trailing 5-2, but came storming back to force a shootout as Mladenovic struggled to match her opposition's aggression. Sharapova found stride precisely where it was needed and led 7-3 by the time the shootout period came to an end.
Just prior to their singles matchups, Sharapova and Murray combined in the mixed doubles to no success. Mladenovic and Nenad Zimonjic showed their quality in earning a 6-4 win for the Royals, a vital win considering only five points separated the two teams by Friday's end.
Earlier in the day, past champion Fabrice Santoro got the Indian Aces off to a strong start, beating Singapore Slammers counterpart Patrick Rafter 6-5 to set his team up for a 26-16 triumph. In a hotly contested battle of the veterans, former world No. 1 Rafter lost out after the match was decided by a shootout, having failed to close the match on his serve at 5-4.
The Indian franchise would go on to take an unassailable lead thanks to the fine work of Ana Ivanovic and Gael Monfils, who triumphed over Daniela Hantuchova and Lleyton Hewitt, respectively.
Thirty-three-year-old Hewitt lost his first serve, recovering to trail his French opponent 2-1, but from there Monfils found a relentless streak to send the second Australian member of the Slammers team crashing. He broke Hewitt's serve twice more to clinch a devastating 6-1 win, and Ivanovic's 6-0 triumph over Hantuchova was even more lopsided.
