Wooden Legacy 2014: Teams, Schedule, Live Stream, Bracket, TV Info

Rob GoldbergNov 26, 2014

Although the Wooden Legacy lacks the hype of some of the other early-season tournaments, there are teams that can surprise this season.

Sure, none of the squads are currently ranked in either major poll. This often causes fans to overlook the event and instead watch other tournaments and reruns of Seinfeld. However, college basketball fans should tune in to see some teams on the brink of becoming legitimate contenders.

When you are filling out your March Madness bracket and see a number of these squads on the list, you will be thankful you prepared yourself early.

Top Player to Watch: Nigel Williams-Goss, Washington

The former McDonald's All-American was overlooked last season on a subpar Washington team, but Nigel Williams-Goss averaged an impressive 13.4 points, 4.4 assists and 4.4 rebounds as a freshman.

This year, he is ready to fill up the stat sheet even more. In three games, he is averaging 12.7 points, 6.3 assists, 5.4 rebounds and two steals. Not only does he have the skill to be a star, but he has a great mentality going into every game:

Williams-Goss is the type of player coaches dream about, with the willingness to get others involved until he needs to make plays himself down the stretch.

While he is not a household name yet, this tournament could be a breakout opportunity for the talented player.

Most Intriguing Team: UTEP

After some bad seasons, Tim Floyd has gotten UTEP back on the right track with a 23-11 record last season. This year is set to be even better with a roster full of talented players.

Vince Hunter has been a star so far this season, averaging 18.5 points and 13 rebounds in two games. While he is 6'8", he plays like someone who is well over seven feet tall and is incredibly difficult to defend in the post.

With everyone on the roster committed to playing defense, this team can go a long way this season.

Each game could be tough in this tournament, but the Miners have the ability to make a run to the finals if things go well.

Predicted Winner: Xavier

This tournament is truly wide open, but Xavier has been the most impressive so far this season and should be able to continue the strong play throughout the year.

While Long Beach State, Stephen F. Austin and Murray State might not be considered national title contenders, each team is among the best in their respective conference but could not come even close to the Musketeers.

Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports likes what he has seen from Xavier:

Meanwhile, Jonathan Givony of Draft Express has been impressed with the play of freshman Trevon Bluiett:

Dee Davis has done an excellent job of running the offense while the rest of the players on the roster remain unselfish with the ball and are always willing to make the extra pass. This will serve the squad well in the Big East this year and definitely in this tournament.
