Djokovic Seals His Number One Crown Against Berdych

It was a comfortable afternoon of work for Novak Djokovic, as he overcame the tepid threat of Tomas Berdych.

The Serbian extended his winning streak indoors to 30 unbeaten encounters, per BBC Sport, winning at a comfortable pace: 6-2, 6-2.

Djokovic sprinted to a 4-0 lead in the first set after some dominant play and two consecutive breaks of serve, threatening to whitewash his opponent.

However, Berdych managed to steal the fifth game of the set but it was nowhere near enough to compete with a superior Djokovic.

The world number one completed the first set in just 31 minutes and continued to further dismantle his opponent in the second.

Once again, Djokovic raced to a 4-0 lead and the writing was on the wall for Berdych, who has only defeated the Serbian twice in his 19 matches against him.

Berdych valiantly tried to hold on but Djokovic made short work of him to seal his win.

His victory could now see a glamour tie finish to the tournament if both he and Roger Federer can win their semifinal games.

Former British number one Tim Henman was quoted by Piers Newbery of BBC Sport about his hopes for a Djokovic v Federer finale: "I'm keeping my fingers crossed we see Federer versus Djokovic in the final—that would be a fitting end. Some of the tennis we've seen from those two has been as good as I've ever seen."

Wawrinka Grabs Semifinal Spot

World No. 4 Stan Wawrinka sealed his place in the final four after a three set battle with Marin Cilic.

The epic one hour and 46 minute match swung back and forth between the two players, with Wawrinka finally stepping up a gear and grabbing the third set by the scruff of the neck.

Wawrinka lost just six service points in the first set and it looked like it would be a simple night for the Swiss sportsman.

But Cilic fought back by winning the second set, raising his form in a short space of time and forcing errors from Wawrinka.

And it was Cilic who continued to push in the final set, and at one point he was leading 2-0 in games.

But Wawrinka showed his true pedigree to battle back and win, and set up an encounter with Federer in an all-Swiss semifinal.

Djokovic is in the form of his life, and it will be incredibly difficult for Federer or any of his Group A opponents to live with him in the last match of the competition. Djokovic is showing new levels of resilience and control, and he constantly has the extra gears to move into when need be.

But Federer still has life in his ageing legs, and he will feel that this title is well within his capability and grasp. But if Djokovic plays his best game, then the ATP World crown will rightfully belong to him.
