Top Games to Watch

Detroit Lions at Arizona Cardinals

This is a matchup of two very strong teams on both sides of the ball, but quarterback play could easily determine the winner of this one. After all, yards on the ground will be tough to come by, as Detroit is ranked second in the league against the run and Arizona is ranked third.

That puts plenty of pressure on these teams' signal-callers, but the Lions have a pretty good one in Matthew Stafford.

Detroit is coming off a win against a stingy Miami Dolphins pass defense thanks in part to a fine performance from the quarterback. Stafford completed 25 of his 40 passing attempts for 280 yards, two touchdowns and one interception for a passer rating of 89.6.

Part of his success was due to the return of All-Pro wide receiver Calvin Johnson, who racked up 113 yards and a score on seven receptions. Arizona head coach Bruce Arians is already devising a scheme to contain the prolific pass-catcher, via Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com:

Golden Tate continued to prove his worth as a solid No. 2 option, hauling in 11 receptions for 109 yards. This team is loaded with weapons and has a very good chance to exploit Arizona's biggest weakness—its 30th-ranked pass defense.

On the flip side, things took an unexpected turn for the Cardinals following their Week 10 victory over the St. Louis Rams, as Palmer was lost for the season with an ACL tear. This forces backup quarterback Drew Stanton into action once again.

Stanton filled in for Palmer earlier this season when the veteran was hampered with a nerve issue in his throwing shoulder. While Stanton did produce a 2-1 record during that span, his accuracy was problematic. Entering Week 11, his 49.5 completion percentage is lower than any of the league's starting quarterbacks.

It will certainly be an uphill climb for Stanton and Co. against a Detroit pass defense that ranks third in the league.

New England Patriots at Indianapolis Colts

This clash of AFC juggernauts should be a wild, all-out aerial assault, as two of the league's hottest quarterbacks are set to face off in a Sunday Night Football contest that has plenty of postseason implications.

Tom Brady has been red-hot of late, leading the Patriots to five consecutive victories due to a resurgent passing attack. After shoring up the offensive line, Brady has been reinvigorated, and he's playing at a higher level than just about anyone in the NFL right now.

Having an abundance of weapons such as the now-healthy Rob Gronkowski, a vastly improved Brandon LaFell and trusty Julian Edelman certainly helps the quarterback's gaudy numbers as well. NFL on CBS even alluded to the team's tight end being its MVP this season:

We should see some fireworks from this group against a Colts defense ranked 27th in the league against the pass; however, the group has stepped up at times this season (see: Week 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals) and has a great cornerback in Vontae Davis.

New England, on the other hand, has a very solid secondary led by the resurgent Darrelle Revis. The Patriots are ranked 14th in the league against the pass, and previous to their Week 10 bye, they held Peyton Manning to just two touchdowns despite the future Hall of Famer gaining 438 passing yards—New England also picked him twice.

The Patriots will have their hands full with Andrew Luck on Sunday. Luck propelled the Colts to own the league's top-ranked passing attack heading into Week 11. The quarterback is on a torrid pace, gaining an average of 337.4 yards through the air per contest. Even Brady had some lofty praise for Luck, via NFL on ESPN:

Get ready for quite a spectacle when these two signal-callers face off Sunday night. If you're a fan of offense and seeing plenty of points on the scoreboard, this is the game for you.
