As the New York Yankees continue their search for Derek Jeter's replacement, their sights could soon be setting on Texas Rangers star Elvis Andrus.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported Monday that New York is "intrigued" by the two-time All-Star. Andrus, 26, is seen as being available because the Rangers have a muck of middle infield talent. Renowned prospect Rougned Odor made his debut in 2014, while star-in-waiting Jurickson Profar is currently recovering from a torn shoulder muscle.

Add in top prospect Luis Sardinas, and Texas has three young, potential studs up the middle already in its organization. While none have Andrus' resume, each comes with years of team control at minimal cost.

Andrus, meanwhile, is set to begin the eight-year, $120 million extension he signed before the 2013 season. Coming off his second All-Star appearance, the then-24-year-old seemed primed to be the best shortstop in baseball when the extension kicked in.

Instead, he's battled through consecutive frustrating seasons. Andrus hit just .263/.314/.333 with two home runs and 45 RBI in 2014, good for arguably the worst season of his MLB career. The Venezuelan, who also had a down defensive year, set a career low with 1.3 wins above replacement last season, per FanGraphs.

The Yankees or any team that trades for Andrus will hope for a major bounce-back in 2015.
