Fantasy Football Week 10: Flex Rankings and Underrated Stars Who Will Score Big

Adam WellsNov 7, 2014

If you have been waiting to make a move in fantasy football, it's time to start going. There are only four weeks until the playoffs start in most leagues. Time is not on your side anymore, magnifying the stakes every week you set your roster.

Now that you are in a full-blown panic, calm down and take a deep breath. Instead of doing all the heavy lifting yourself, help is on the way. Specifically, looking at key flex players worth considering for Week 10. There's no point saying that Calvin Johnson will do great in his first game in five weeks because everyone will start him.

Here's a look at the top flex players for Week 10, as well as a deeper dive into a few names from the list to keep in mind when filling out your lineup.

Denard Robinson, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars

In a season where very little has gone right for Jacksonville, Denard Robinson has turned out to be a bright spot. And fantasy owners are reaping the rewards—the second-year player has run for at least 94 yards in each of the last three games.

ESPN's Field Yates put Robinson's numbers as a starter into much better perspective than I just did, though the point remains the same:

It's clear the Toby Gerhart experiment was a flop, so getting Robinson touches has turned into a genius move for Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley.

Robinson's hot streak shouldn't stop in London this week against a Dallas defense that's allowing the fifth-most yards per carry (4.6) and has allowed 168 yards to opposing No. 1 running backs (Alfred Morris, Andre Ellington) over the last two games.

Tony Romo not playing would be another benefit for Jacksonville's offense. Brandon Weeden proved last week that he's incapable of moving the ball through the air. If that continues this week, the Jaguars will get plenty of chances to move the ball and put points on the board against a defense that's starting to crack.

It won't be long before Robinson becomes a must-start No. 2 running back in most leagues. For now, given his lack of track record and the bad team around him, the former Michigan quarterback remains a solid flex option.

Percy Harvin, WR, New York Jets

Much has been said about Percy Harvin off the field since his trade from Seattle, but the young man knows how to make plays. He didn't touch the ball enough in Seattle to make a difference. The Jets, however, finally unleashed their new weapon last week against Kansas City and saw great results.

Harvin touched the ball a season-high 12 times for 137 yards. The most encouraging part of that display was Harvin's 11 catches on 13 targets. It shows he's found a comfort level in New York's passing system and is going to be treated like a No. 1 receiver.

Per NFL Network's Andrew Siciliano, that was Harvin's best receiving week in over two years, dating back to his time in Minnesota:

He's the one true weapon Rex Ryan has to play with.

Spinning that performance forward, Harvin shouldn't be expected to post 100 yards every week. But that doesn't mean he's not worth another start as a flex player under the right circumstances.

Pittsburgh qualifies as "the right circumstances."

According to Brian Gramling of ESPN.com, the Steelers have allowed the sixth-most receptions to opposing wide receivers (114) this season. They are also allowing 252.2 passing yards per game and 7.5 yards per attempt and have allowed 15 touchdown passes.

Finding the end zone is the one thing missing from Harvin's resume this season. This is the game for that to change because of how soft the Steelers have been in the secondary.

Richard Rodgers, TE, Green Bay Packers

An obscure choice, for sure, but Richard Rodgers is starting to get more attention in Green Bay's offense. By more attention, I mean some. He had four catches for 58 yards against New Orleans before the Packers went on their bye, so it's difficult to know if that upward trend is legitimate.

However, there's no reason to think Rodgers' production will drop. As Aaron Nagler of SI Now noted, the Packers don't have anyone better to use at tight end right now:

While that's not exactly a glowing review of what Rodgers can do, it's a starting point. It helps that he's got the benefit of a great matchup in Week 10. According to ESPN's Jim McCormick, Chicago's defense has allowed an average of 12.5 points per game to opposing fantasy tight ends this season.

The Bears are also allowing the second-most yards per attempt (8.2), the third-highest completion percentage (67.3) and the sixth-most touchdown passes (17).

The rookie tight end was drafted in the third round, so it's clear the Packers view his talent as something that can blossom under the right circumstances. It doesn't hurt when the other Rodgers, Aaron, is throwing you the ball.

Rodgers the quarterback has torched the Bears throughout his career—including in Week 4 this year to the tune of 302 yards and four touchdowns. Someone has to benefit from all the attempts he will have in Week 10. Rodgers the tight end seems like a safe bet for a handful of catches and possibly even his first career touchdown.
