Following San Francisco's victory will of course be the celebratory parade and bash commemorating the conquering stars. The team's massive success over the last few years is unlikely to dull the atmosphere.
When: Friday, Oct. 31, at noon PT
Where: Parade begins at Steuart and Market Streets
Watch: KPIX 5 and Comcast SportsNet
Live Stream: KPIX Live
If anything, three parades in five years means the city of San Francisco knows exactly how to logistically tackle this massive task. The plans were likely hashed out as soon as the Giants made the playoffs.
The final details look to be in place, with the team's official fan account announcing the parade will be on Friday, which is coincidentally Halloween:
San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee saluted the Giants and also confirmed the date of the event:
KPIX 5 in San Francisco noted the exact start time of the parade and celebration could depend on the weather. The forecast for Friday isn't encouraging, with The Weather Channel calling for a high of 63 degrees during the day with an 80 percent chance of rain.
NBC Bay Area Weather tweeted out what the forecast looks like from noon until 4 p.m. PT:
Comcast SportsNet, one of the channels showing the parade on television, announced that it will begin airing live coverage at 11:30 a.m. PT:
According to The Associated Press, via ABC 7 in San Francisco, the parade will begin at the corner of Market and Steuart Streets. The celebration will continue traveling down Market Street until arriving at Civic Center Plaza.
The route looks to be the same one taken during the parade following the Giants' 2012 World Series win, which you can view here. The city closed down Mission Street from the Embarcadero to Ninth Street, so fans in San Francisco can expect similar closures Friday.
Many Giants fans likely wondered whether they'd get any parade at all after the Royals' 10-0 win in Game 6. Kansas City had all the momentum, but San Francisco's pitching shut the door in Game 7, with Jeremy Affeldt and Madison Bumgarner combining to pitch the final 7.1 innings.
Bumgarner earned the World Series Most Valuable Player Award. He pitched five scoreless innings in relief in Game 7, bookending the Fall Classic after his seven-inning gem in Game 1:
Tim Hudson and Ryan Vogelsong both sang the praises of Bumgarner after the game, per Alex Pavlovic of the San Jose Mercury News:
The Royals had a runner on third with two outs in the ninth after Gregor Blanco's error in center field, but Bumgarner forced Salvador Perez to foul out to end the game. It was a nerve-racking finish to what had been a nerve-racking postseason.
Friday will be a great opportunity for fans and players alike to release the stress that has built up over the last few weeks.
Those who plan on attending will likely want to find a spot early. An estimated 1 million fans showed up for the Giants' parade two years ago, lining the 1.7-mile route.
