San Francisco 49ers center Daniel Kilgore suffered an apparent leg injury in his team's Week 7 Sunday Night Football matchup against the Denver Broncos.
Kilgore went down midway through the third quarter. CSNBayArea.com's Matt Maiocco reported that the fourth-year pro injured both his leg and his ankle:
Matt Barrows of The Sacramento Bee noted the air cast placed on Kilgore's leg is often a very bad sign:
The 49ers' Twitter account and Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network provided updates after the Broncos win:
Maiocco gave his thoughts on Kilgore's play up to this point in the season:
Kilgore has played his entire career with the 49ers, but didn't crack the starting lineup until this season. Injuries haven't been a problem for him thus far; he played in all 16 games in 2012 and 2013 and started every game for the 49ers this year.
If Kilgore's injury is as bad as it looks, the 49ers could struggle at the point of attack. Veteran guard Mike Iupati missed the Broncos game after suffering a concussion in Week 6, compounding the problem for the 49ers. These injuries could limit the effectiveness of running back Frank Gore, a north-south runner who excels between the tackles.
