Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski's Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 7

Tim KeeneyOct 16, 2014

The New England Patriots' 27-25 win over the New York Jets on Thursday was anything but pretty, but fantasy owners won't mind.

There was a slew of useful fantasy performances on the night, including a pair from Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski:

Brady's outing was obviously much more plentiful, so we'll start with him. First, a look at his past three games, via ESPN's Field Yates:

Yikes. In standard leagues, that's an average of 24.2 points per game. For that reason, now may be a perfect time to shop the future Hall of Famer around and see if you can get someone to pay a premium price.

It's not that he's going to return to his early-season form when critics were claiming he was washed up. But he's currently performing at a high-end QB1 level, while his more realistic rest-of-the-season value sits more in the mid- to low-range QB1.

As for Gronkowski, think just the opposite. He will likely finish outside the top 10 at the position for the week, but make no mistake about it: He is a top-three fantasy tight end, with No. 1 potential for the remainder of the season.

Gronk finished with 68 yards and didn't find the end zone, but as Bleacher Report's Erik Frenz and Pro Football Focus' Tyler Loechner noted, he still looked quite impressive:

He received a team-high 10 targets, was tackled at the 3-yard line and racked up solid numbers despite hardly being on the field, as Brady alluded to, via Frenz:

New England had barely over 19 minutes of possession and ran just 52 plays. That means that nearly 20 percent of the team's snaps ended in a throw toward Gronkowski. With that kind of usage, he's unlikely to see this low of an output again in 2014.

If you have him, don't worry. If you can get him, whether it's at a discount or not, make it happen as soon as possible. Because he's only going up from here.
