Doug Martin, Bobby Rainey's Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 6

Rob GoldbergOct 12, 2014

As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers continue to struggle, the fantasy football players on the team are suffering as well.

Doug Martin was considered a top option at running back coming into the year, but he has failed to top 50 rushing yards in any game. This did not change as Bobby Rainey stole some carries and showed he is once again a big part of the offense.

Here is a look at the duo's numbers in the Week 6 game against the Baltimore Ravens:

Tampa Bay went down 38-0 in the first half, which left little room for pounding the ball on the ground for either player. Still, there were plenty impressed with Rainey when he was on the field, including the NFL.com account:

As the team slowly put points on the board, Rainey was a big part of it, via CSN:

Martin got more touches and topped four yards per carry for the first time all season. Rainey was even better, though, coming in at six yards per carry.

With the entire squad struggling, it seems like neither has a good chance of being a productive fantasy player going forward. Martin remains the top option, but Rainey will continue to take away carries from the starter, keeping both at about 10-15 touches.

Considering Rainey rushed for 144 yards against the St. Louis Rams when Martin was out, he is someone who should be on rosters in case Martin goes down again. Otherwise, both players should probably be on the bench until one person takes over the starting role.

While Martin does appear like a decent buy-low candidate, you still want to see more production before giving up talent to get him. It is better to just take a wait-and-see approach with the young running back.
