Ahmad Bradshaw, Trent Richardson's Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 5

Rob GoldbergOct 5, 2014

With the Indianapolis Colts remaining a pass-heavy team, it remains difficult to trust either of the team's running backs in fantasy football.

Ahmad Bradshaw and Trent Richardson effectively split their touches in the first half against the Baltimore Ravens, and neither one was able to provide too much production for fantasy owners. Bradshaw had 42 yards on seven touches in the first half while Richardson had 34 yards on 10 touches.

Bradshaw got more touches after halftime, though it would hardly be considered a great fantasy day. Here is a look at each player's numbers in the winning effort.

The duo was effective when getting the ball, but it remains clear each of their fantasy value is based on scoring touchdowns. This is not good considering the pair has combined for just one rushing touchdown coming into the year.

Bradshaw does have a bit more value with his receiving ability near the end zone, scoring four times in the first four weeks. However, there are simply too many options in the passing game for Andrew Luck to find. This reduces his chances of continuing his scoring run each week.

Before the start of the game, offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton explained how he plans on using the tandem going forward this season, via Stephen Holder of the Indy Star:

"

It takes care of itself. There are times where we have specific plays for Trent and then we have certain plays that we would prefer to have Ahmad run. But at the end of the day, we understand that when you run 82 plays in a game, you want to keep your guys fresh.

"

This makes it unlikely either of them gets too many 100-yard games.

Richardson has certainly improved based on what he showed last season. Bob Kravitz of WTHR liked what he saw a few times in the game:

Both he and Bradshaw have proven the ability to help the Colts create some balance offensively. Unfortunately, there will be a lot of inconsistency from a fantasy perspective, which makes neither one worth starting on a weekly basis.
