Doug Martin, Bobby Rainey's Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 4

Rob GoldbergSep 28, 2014

Doug Martin is back and healthy, which is good news for fantasy teams but bad news for Bobby Rainey.

The starter had missed two games with a leg injury, in which Rainey came through with one huge game (174 total yards Week 2) and one average game (105 total yards and two lost fumbles in Week 3). With Martin returning, it seems clear he is still the go-to option in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers backfield.

Here is a breakdown of the two running backs from the Week 4 win:

Bobby Rainey4201162

Patrick Daugherty of Rotoworld noted the split in carries early in the game:

Martin took a while to get going but finally started to rack up some yards and then got into the end zone on a three-yard touchdown run, although Ryan Fowler of Fox Sports joked about the rarity of the play:

While he still lacked efficiency, the third-year running back was given plenty of opportunities to shine. Against a weaker defense, he should be able to turn this into a strong outing. As long as he is healthy, he should remain an RB2 and a starter in most lineups.

On the other hand, Rainey was extremely limited with Martin in the lineup. He might end up with some big runs here or there, but he is not worth using in fantasy football unless he can be a starter on his own team.

Although he might be worthy to keep as a handcuff going forward, do not be afraid to drop him from your team if you need the roster spot.
