Cordarrelle Patterson, Greg Jennings' Fantasy Outlook with Teddy Bridgewater

Andrew GouldSep 21, 2014

A Matt Cassel injury prompted the Minnesota Vikings to turn to Teddy Bridgewater, which led to solid yet unspectacular results for the passing offense during the team's 20-9 loss to the New Orleans Saints.

Cassel was carted off during the first half with a toe injury. ESPN's John Clayton reported that the veteran quarterback would not return on Sunday:

Wide receivers Cordarralle Patterson and Greg Jennings both had decent, but underwhelming days considering New Orleans' trouble against the pass during the first two weeks.

It remains to be seen who will stand under center next Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. While Bridgewater hardly seized the job during his NFL debut, Cassel opened the door for a potential move by surrendering four interceptions to the New England Patriots during Week 2.

Earlier in the week, Bleacher Report's Jason Cole discussed the quarterback dilemma, maintaining that the Vikings would prefer to hold off on employing Bridgewater.

It's possible, however, that Cassel's injury will force their hand.

Either way, the difference is currently not stark enough to affect their receivers' fantasy stock. Patterson remains a superb talent who just needs the ball in open space to make big things happen. He's a premier talent regardless of who's throwing the ball to him and is a high-risk, high-reward WR3.

Although Jennings had his best games with Cassel last season, he led the team in targets this afternoon. The rookie might feel most comfortable using his veteran as a safety knob on safe routes, making him a matchup play in most leagues and a decent FLEX option.
