Jordan Matthews, Jeremy Maclin's Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 3

Sean ODonnellSep 21, 2014

Wide receivers in Chip Kelly's high-octane offense can be huge assets for fantasy owners. On Sunday, Jeremy Maclin and Jordan Matthews reaffirmed that notion with big performances.

Maclin came into the season as the team's No. 1 option for quarterback Nick Foles, and he proved once more on Sunday against the Washington Redskins to be extremely reliable, hauling in eight receptions for 154 yards and a touchdown.

The veteran's fantasy numbers were a block-in-the-back away from being even greater, but an 80-yard catch and run for a touchdown was called back, according to Adam Levitan of Rotoworld:

Maclin's chemistry with Foles—and consistent role on the team's offense—will continue to justify his standing as a solid WR1 for fantasy owners going forward.

Matthews didn't have much of an impact through two weeks with Riley Cooper assuming No. 2 responsibilities for Philadelphia; however, after Cooper's limited production, the rookie got his chance in Week 3—and he took full advantage.

The Vanderbilt product proved his worth in the red zone, hauling in two 11-yard touchdown receptions in the second quarter on Sunday. His nine targets were second on the team to Maclin's 10, which signifies plenty of trust from his quarterback.

Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News tweeted the wide receiver's stats at the half:

The rookie continued to thrive in the second half, finishing the game with eight receptions for 59 yards and two scores.

We've only seen a small sample size of Matthews to this point, but so far he's been magnificent. Expect his role to increase in Philadelphia going forward, as his production could warrant a move up the depth chart.

Fantasy owners should be rushing to the waiver wire to grab Matthews after his great showing on Sunday. Due to his high amount of targets against Washington, he can be considered a high-end flex option—at minimum—in the immediate future.
