Patriots' Bill Belichick Earns 200th Career Regular-Season Victory

Bleacher Report MilestonesSep 15, 2014

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick earned his 200th career regular-season victory with Sunday's 30-7 triumph over the Minnesota Vikings, per Ben Volin of The Boston Globe.

Following a disappointing season-opening loss to the Miami Dolphins, Belichick rode his defense and running game to a surprisingly easy victory, even though the Vikings started the game with a seven-play, 80-yard touchdown drive.

That drive accounted for all the points Minnesota would muster, as the Patriots ended the game on a 30-0 run, highlighted by defensive end Chandler Jones' blocked field goal that he also returned for a touchdown.

One week after running back Stevan Ridley got just eight carries, the Patriots handed him the ball a whopping 25 times, with the former LSU Tiger rumbling for 101 yards.

Meanwhile, quarterback Tom Brady was barely needed, as the future Hall of Famer completed 15 of his 22 pass attempts for 149 yards and a touchdown.

Now tied with Marty Schottenheimer for sixth place on the all-time coaching wins list, Belichick owns an incredible 200-106 record in his career, good for a .654 winning percentage. That winning percentage ranks 14th all time and seventh among coaches with at least 100 victories.

While sixth on the wins list, Belichick ranks fifth if you only count wins in the NFL and AFL, as legendary coach Paul Brown earned 47 of his 213 victories in the All-American Football Conference.

In any case, Belichick will likely pass Brown next season, thus moving into an undisputed fifth place on the all-time list.

Looking up the ladder, the top four are Curly Lambeau (226), Tom Landry (250), George Halas (318) and Don Shula (328).

How high Belichick ascends will likely depend on his continued desire to coach, as he still seems to be at the top of his game at the age of 62.
