Breaking Down Daniel Bryan’s WWE World Heavyweight Championship Decision
WWE world heavyweight champion Daniel Bryan was asked to surrender his title to Stephanie McMahon on the go-home edition of Raw, but refused the offer and was given an ultimatum that he would have to answer at the Payback PPV.
Bryan must choose between the career of his wife, Brie Bella, or his dreams of being the company’s top star.
The reason Bryan was asked to hand the titles over and has been out of action is because he underwent neck surgery on May 15, according to WWE.com. While the surgery was deemed a success, there is no doubt Bryan will continue to miss time while he rehabilitates the injury.
For the fans worried about the long-term ramifications of the injury, the fact he traveled with the company and made an appearance on Raw is a good indication the surgery was less invasive than many expected.
With Bryan already back on WWE's flagship show, there is no way he surrenders the title at Payback.
Unfortunately for Brie Bella, that means she’s out of a job.
As we saw on Raw, McMahon will likely walk to the ring to call out Bryan for his decision. The world champion would stand face-to-face with his boss and state he wants to do the right thing by protecting his wife.
Before Bryan is able to surrender his title, Brie must hit the ring and talk him out of the decision by reminding him of how important the world championship is to him. With Bryan still about to hand the two belts over, Brie would quit and allow Bryan to retain the championship.
Once Brie is no longer an employee of the company, though, she would be free to attack Stephanie and spawn a feud between the two women that could ultimately culminate in Brie's rehiring and a SummerSlam match.
With Bryan doing his best to separate the women, Kane could make an appearance and hit the ring. If Bryan is healthier than the company is letting on, the Big Red Monster could easily garner more heat by beating down Bryan.
This would make it clear the Bryan vs. Kane storyline is far from over and would give Stephanie and Brie the chance to work in the ring against each other.
As long as Bryan walks out of Payback with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, though, wrestling fans should be happy.
