Ring Rap With Matt: A Look at Where The WWE Stands Today
Hello everyone. As always, thank you for taking the time to spend a few minutes with me.
What I would like to talk about today is the current state of the WWE, and how it stands today as a whole.
I will be honest, impartial and fair like I always try to be. Some say I tend to over criticize and that is a fair point. Hell, I'm still putting out the flaming arrows over my Jericho piece (lol).

The way I look at it though is you have to judge that way. The WWE is supposedly where the big boys play, right? Well I'm going to treat the WWE that way along with the wrestlers on the show.
I have seen a lot of articles pop up lately on the state of the WWE, and how it can be fixed. The problem with this is, these really are all just mute points and opinions when all is said and done.
It is mainly because anything we say including myself will never be heard. So all we can really do is roll with the punches and hope things fix themselves.
That being said, I will not be offering my two cents on how things can be fixed. All I will be doing is grading the current product as it stands today.
So with out any further delay I give you my reviews and grades of the WWE today.
Please feel free to agree, disagree, whatever it is you prefer to think of my work. As I always say, I'm always up for a good rasslin debate.
RAW
I don't feel Raw today is in shambles as many others tend to think. The show has its problems right now I wont argue that though. Raw, in my opinion is more misguided then any thing else.
Lets look at things from a realistic perspective shall we. On Raw we have stars like Randy Orton, HHH, Cena, and the Big Show leading the way. That is not a bad front four to say the least.
As it stands now they are letting Orton run with the ball, and rightfully so he is maturing everyday and has all the making of a Hall of Famer. Why they continue to hot swap the belt of him is beyond me though.
Also on Raw we their is a lot of nice young and upcoming talent to work with. If I were to start a federation, I would be more than happy to start it with guys like M.V.P, Kofi Kingston, Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase.
These guys will be on the top in the near future. Who exactly will be? We will not know until later on in the future. I wouldn't be surprised though if all four them make it big in the business known as wrestling.
The only problem I see with Raw is the writing. It seems that the current writers for Raw just cant help from tripping over themselves.
There is a new GM every other week, and it seems to me they have no clue how to push the great talent they are given to work with. This is even more evident with this latest Donald Trump fiasco.
I will give Raw as a whole a C+
The C+ is mainly for the talent on the show. I would give it a much higher grade but every thing else just drags it down to much.
Smackdown
As it stands now Smackdown is golden right now. They give us pure wrestling fans the action we crave to see each and every week.
I can count on one hand how many bad matches Smackdown has had since the draft.
Smackdown offers us a nice blend of star power and young talent. Without forcing crappy and drawn out story lines each week. I think part of the reason is because they just let them do their thing each week.
At the top of the roster we have guys like Chris Jericho, Edge, Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio and CM Punk. All these guys have something in common, they spent a good portion of their careers playing second fiddle.
This works in their favor because as a whole they have been over looked for years, and are now given the chance to shine. The vets on the show run Smackdown like a well oiled machine.
While I think their is some decent young talent on Smackdown. I wish their was some more though, call me greedy that's just how I feel.
I also like the fact that they let these guys run loose out in the ring. When you watch a match on Smackdown you will always get a good effort.
Its easy math folks, when you take the best ring workers in your company and put them on one show its going to be good.
I give Smackdown an A
ECW
ECW is a little harder to grade for me mainly because its not ECW. I remember ECW and this is not ECW.
I wish they would give this show another name. that way I can be more impartial with my feelings of the show.
With that said it is a really solid program overall. This show is equivalent to a Triple-A ball club.
You have pretty much the development talent mixed in with some veterans who might not see daylight on the other shows. ECW works their young talent very effectively which is always a positive in my book.
In the top spots on this show you have Tommy Dreamer, Christain, Finlay and Mark Henry to carry the weight. All these guys are solid vets who know how to get things done in the ring.
The young talent is very good on ECW, that should go with out saying though. When I look at the future and see guys like Jack Swagger, Tyson Kidd, David Hart Smith and Evan Bourne. I cant help but think that the WWE has a nice future ahead of itself.
I wish the show was longer than a hour because like on Smackdown, these guys give it their all and throw down out there.
I would give ECW a solid B considering they only get hour.
WWE Superstars
I know this show is only a highlight reel for people to catch up on the other three brands.
That is the point of the show though, and it is done pretty well when all is said and done. The WWE also does a good job of enhancing the current storylines in the process.
I also like the fact that we get to see some matches that would never see the light of day unless you were at that Raw or Smackdown taping.
So far from what I have seen the WWE has delivered some solid action on this show. The Chris Jericho and John Morrison matches alone have made it worth watching.
Considering what the show is, I will give it a solid C.
Well that about raps it up for me folks. I would like to thank you once again for spending a few moments with me.
Feel free to comment on how you feel about my opinions. If you disagree, fear not I am not offended easily.
As always, have a good day and God bless.
