Baltimore Ravens offensive lineman Jah Reid was arrested Sunday and charged on two misdemeanor battery counts after being involved in a fight at a Florida strip club.ย
According to arrest records obtained byย The Baltimore Sun'sย Aaron Wilson,ย Reid and an acquaintance were the aggressors in a fight with a fellow patron and security personnel in Key West. The other patron, named in the affidavit asย Edmond Mussa, allegedly bumped into Reid accidentally, starting a verbal argument that soon turned physical.
Security footage allegedly shows Reid head-butting and punching Mussa, knocking him to the ground. The 335-pound lineman then began kicking Mussa once he hit the ground, leading to security personnel attempting to come over and break up the altercation. When confronted by security, Reidย is believed to have punched him as well.
Reid'sย acquaintance, Benjamin Buxton, allegedly began striking Mussa when Reid was dealing with the security guard. Buxton and Reid have each been charged with two counts of misdemeanor battery.ย NBC 6 South Florida's Twitter feed obtained a copy of Reid's mugshot from the night in question:
A simple battery charge carries a maximum of one year in prisonย and a $1,000 fine. Neither Buxton nor Reid have entered a plea, and both were free to leave following their arrest because they were not charged with a felony.
A third-round pick out of UCF in 2011, Reid has played in 35 games of mostly spot duty during his three NFL seasons. His most significant playing time came during the Ravens' 2012 Super Bowl season, where he started seven games at left guard due to injury. Though in his third year of John Harbaugh's system, Reid received only 22 offensive snaps last season, according to Football Outsiders.
Wilson's report notes Reid and Harbaugh have spoken about the incident. Because of the developing nature of the criminal case, the Ravens are yet to make any proclamations about his status with the team and only offered a generalized statement.
"We have learned of the situation and are gathering information,"ย Ravens director of public relations Chad Steele told Wilson.

With the team's offseason already being filled with legal trouble, that may be the most likely outcome. Ravens running back Ray Rice is currently facing assault charges afterย allegedly knocking outย his fiance in an Atlantic City casino. Wide receiverย Deonte Thompson wasย also arrestedย last month for possession of marijuana and other drugย paraphernalia.
Because of his already tenuous status within the Ravens' offensive line, it will be interesting to see how the team handles this situation. Reid is in the final season of his rookie contract, which calls for just a $785,810 cap hold. Though he provides depth and has value as a special teams contributor, Baltimore could cut Reid and pay just $140,810 in capย penalties, per Spotrac.ย
The Ravens are coming off an 8-8 campaign, failing to make the playoffs after reaching the pinnacle a season prior. Though their recent run-ins with the law have to be a disappointment and a distraction, all these cases should work themselves out with plenty of time to spare before camp opens.
