Anyone for Some Terrence Williams?
The Warriors are in position to possibly reverse what everyone is seeing as a horrific team, and suddenly become an exciting, dynamic, and winning franchise once more. And all it requires is one simple trade (which is possible, I found using the ESPN Trade Machine) of: the Warrior's seventh pick and Corey Maggette, for the Chicago Bull's 16th pick, and Kirk Hinrich. Then, they would use that 16th pick on Terrence Williams.
I don’t see why the Warriors wouldn’t want Terrence Williams, imagine him helping out the rebounding while providing a solid "Stephen Jackson style" player to take over soon enough. And he has better turnover number than Captain Jack, while still getting plenty of points, rebounds, and assists.
Warriors can save a ton of cash by trading the seventh pick to Chicago for the 16th. They can also be in a position where they're not reaching to draft Williams.
Also, what they can do is help the Bulls out, by trading Corey Maggette for Kirk Hinrich. Chicago already has Derrick Rose, and really would like to open up the floodgates for him to take over. So give them the one man lane-driver, and Maggette also goes over to the East, meaning a lot less of him terrorizing the Warriors lane.
Now, after this great trade, look at what our beloved Dub’s roster becomes (including Jamal Crawford assuming he doesn't opt-out, and the pick of Williams; also, starters are listed first):
PG - Hinrich; Watson; Williams; Crawford; Ellis (distant fifth, do we realize he’s not a point guard option yet?)
SG - Ellis; Crawford; Azubuike/Williams (Azubuike gets the beginning nod); Morrow/ Belinelli (Morrow gets the nod)
SF - Jackson; Williams/Azubuike (Williams gets the nod at this position); Morrow/ Belinelli (Still Morrow first)
PF - Randolph; Wright; Azubuike/Williams (Buike has more experience here)
C - Biedrins; Turiaf; Randolph; Wright
Yes, this is a 13 man roster, so people will be rotating in and out, probably with the rotation being Watson, Belinelli, Wright, Morrow, and Williams (in that order).
But, look at the depth on that squad, they would be able to survive a huge onslaught of injuries. And outside of Jackson being in the 30’s range, everybody is young. And drafting Williams will not only appease him, as he has said to the Mercury New's Tim Kawakami that he would love to play in the Bay, but he is also a close friend of Jamal Crawford, meaning Crawford staying has a plus side.
That means years to come of a great, deep, growing, long, strong, and athletic team. We have players in the position of their strength, along with others who are extremely versatile. I'll even categorize them
PG’s : Hinrich, Watson
SG’s: Morrow, Belinelli
SF’s: Jackson
PF’s: Wright
C’s: Biedrins, Turiaf
Versatile: Randolph (SF/PF/C); Crawford (PG/SG); Williams (PG/SG/SF/PF); Azubuike (SG/SF/PF)
That's a great team, good contracts (outside of Jackson having too many years on his), and plenty of hope for the now and the future. Here’s to the Warriors bringing some "We Believe" back to the Bay!
