Tyler BrookeJun 8, 2018

A number of high school basketball recruits are beginning to commit to some top college programs, and Cliff Alexander has officially set his decision date.

Coming out of Chicago, Alexander is a 5-star recruit and the No. 4 overall player in the nation, according to Rivals.com.  ESPN has Alexander as the No. 3 overall player in their ESPN 100 players with a scout grade of 97.  He will be declaring at the same time along with Jahlil Okafor and Tyus Jones

Below is a complete breakdown of when and where to watch Alexander make his decision, a look at the top schools he's interested in and a scouting report of this top-tier recruit.

Alexander tweeted his top four schools at the beginning of November:

The DePaul Blue Demons have their fingers crossed and are hoping that they can bring in Alexander.  They went just 11-21 with a 2-16 Big East record last season, and they're looking to improve over the next few seasons.

Illinois would certainly be an interesting option as well.  The Fighting Illini struggled in the Big Ten last season, but a big name like Alexander could make them a possible contender in what is arguably the toughest conference in the nation.

Alexander could follow a path similar to the one of Derrick Rose by going to Memphis.  The Tigers had a nice run last season, going 31-5 and advancing to the third round of the NCAA tournament before falling to Michigan State.

The last school Alexander is considering is Kansas, and they know a thing or two about big recruits.  The Jayhawks were able to bring in Andrew Wiggins this season, and he was the No. 1-rated recruit in 2013.

All four schools would obviously love to bring in this exciting player.

Scouting Report

It seems like almost every top-tier recruit over the past few years has been a physically gifted athlete, and Alexander is certainly no exception.

At 6'9'' and 260 pounds, Alexander has an incredibly thick frame that's ideal for someone playing down low.  He has some terrific strength to match up against opposing power forwards and centers, and he is athletic enough to keep up with pretty much anyone down low.

What makes Alexander such an exciting recruit is his defensive presence.  He excels at grabbing rebounds and boxing out with that frame and is always active in the paint.  He does a great job in post defense and contesting shots.

Offensively, Alexander is still a bit of a work in progress.  He is getting better in the post, but he's too inconsistent.  That will certainly be something that he can fix with time at the college level, but for now, he will be a great defensive player in college basketball from Day 1.
