Cowboys vs. Saints: TV Info, Spread, Injury Updates, Game Time and More

Jesse ReedJun 8, 2018

Some matchups are more compelling than others, and we've got a real treat coming up this weekend when the Dallas Cowboys take on the New Orleans Saints on Sunday Night Football.

At the midway point of the season, both teams have positioned themselves nicely for a postseason berth.

Dallas beat Minnesota last weekend thanks to a brilliant bit of fourth-quarter quarterbacking by Tony Romo, who led the Cowboys on a 90-yard touchdown drive to win the game 27-24. The victory moved the Cowboys to 5-4 on the season—one game ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East.

The Saints are coming off a bitter loss to the New York Jets last weekend. At 6-2, this team is still one of the best in the NFC, but with Carolina nipping at its heels at 5-3, New Orleans needs to keep winning to stay atop the NFC South.

Here's a look at when and where you can catch the action, along with injury reports for both teams.

Will Dallas Be Able to Shut Down Drew Brees?

It's incredible how little national attention is given to the greatness of Drew Brees.

Peyton Manning has been making all the headlines this year, but Brees has quietly put together statistics that come close to what we're seeing in Denver. He's averaging 334 yards per game and has thrown 21 touchdowns in eight games.

Jimmy Graham is banged up right now, but that hasn't stopped him from racking up four touchdowns in his last two games.

Darren Sproles was forced from the game last weekend with an ankle injury and potential concussion, which had much to do with the team's inability to move the ball in the fourth quarter, but he was a full participant in practice after being medically cleared, as noted by ESPN.com's Mike Triplett:

Dallas features the NFL's second-worst pass defense, allowing 305.2 yards per game, and the Cowboys have allowed 16 passing touchdowns this season.

Morris Claiborne and Brandon Carr are both excellent cornerbacks. However, they're playing in a scheme that doesn't suit their strengths, and, making matters worse, the team's safeties are horrible.

This secondary will have a heck of a time shutting down the potent Saints offense.

Prediction

Tony Romo has had a couple of monster outings this season, but he's also had a couple of stinkers. This upcoming game in New Orleans could turn out to be one of the latter.

The Saints surprisingly feature one of the NFL's top pass defenses, allowing just 211.9 passing yards per game. Even more impressively, this team has only allowed eight passing touchdowns all year.

Given Dallas' nonexistent running game (75.7 yards per game, No. 27 in the league), the Cowboys could be in real trouble trying to keep up with the Saints.

Both teams can score points in bunches, but the home team has a big edge on the defensive side of the ball in this contest.

Final Score

Saints win 35-27.
