Start 'Em Sit 'Em Week 3: Breaking Down Tough WR Decisions
The toughest decision each week in the land of football usually comes down to deciphering which combination of wide receivers will lead owners to victory.
There is not an exact science to picking the right receivers, but a close gander at the matchup and history to this point is a smart way to go.
Outside of the painfully obvious such as starting Calvin Johnson, picking the right receivers can be an uphill battle thanks to the impressive depth and hit-or-miss nature the position.

2025 Draft Picks Ready For Leap 🐸

Jaguars' Hypothetical Alvin Kamara Trade Offer
Here we'll illustrate six not-so-obvious receivers and detail why they should be in the lineup or sulking on the bench for this week's batch of fantasy football.
Start 'Em: Jerome Simpson, Minnesota Vikings, vs. Cleveland Browns
Like any team with an elite cornerback, the Cleveland Browns surrender a wealth of fantasy points to No. 2 wideouts each week.
Miami's Brian Hartline went off for nine receptions, 114 yards and a score in Week 1 before Baltimore's rookie Marlon Brown brought in four for 45 and a score in Week 2.
Next up is Simpson, who will be free to run wild with Joe Haden focused on Greg Jennings. Expect Simpson's hot streak to continue for at least another week.
Sit 'Em: Cecil Shorts, Jacksonville Jaguars, vs. Seattle Seahawks
Cecil Shorts is the most talented offensive player in Jacksonville, but even he cannot save the team from getting embarrassed in Seattle on Sunday.
It's a shame because Shorts is a true No. 1 in a fantasy and real sense, but he'll continue to struggle with either Chad Henne or Blaine Gabbert at quarterback.
Shorts brought in eight receptions for 93 yards last week, but that was the time to start him against weak opposition. In Seattle against one of the best secondaries equates to Shorts on the bench or a fantasy loss.
Start 'Em: Anquan Boldin, San Francisco 49ers, vs. Indianapolis Colts
There are fantasy owners who strongly dislike Anquan Boldin right now.
After 13 catches for 208 yards and a touchdown in Week 1, Boldin disappeared in Week 2 against the aforementioned elite defense of Seattle by catching one pass for seven yards.
The good news is this week, Boldin will look more Week 1 than Week 2 against an Indianapolis defense that has allowed seven of eight No. 1 wide receivers to score double-digit fantasy points. Boldin is a must start.
Sit 'Em: Antonio Brown, Pittsburgh Steelers, vs. Chicago Bears
Antonio Brown may be a No. 1 receiver in Pittsburgh, but fantasy owners sure would not know it given his measly 11 receptions.
Brown is peeved about his role in Pittsburgh, per the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and until coordinator Todd Haley decides to use his best receiver, Brown is a fantasy wasteland. Don't just sit him against elite corners Charles Tillman and Tim Jennings this week—throw Brown on the trade block.
Start 'Em: Mike Wallace, Miami Dolphins, vs. Atlanta Falcons
The aforementioned Colts secondary that gets torched by No. 1 receivers? The culprit last week was Miami's Mike Wallace and his 115 yards and a touchdown.
Now Wallace rolls that momentum into a matchup with a vulnerable Atlanta secondary that has allowed four touchdowns to receivers through just two games.
Expect Wallace to still play a major role in the offense, especially in his home debut.
Sit 'Em: Roddy White, Atlanta Falcons, at Miami Dolphins
Roddy White's new nickname should be "decoy."
That's all White has done this season as he continues to battle an ankle injury. In the confines of the Atlanta offense, it makes plenty of sense—force defenses to throw less coverage Julio Jones' way by having White on the field.
From a fantasy perspective, it's a nightmare for White owners. White played just 53 percent of the snaps last week and has only caught five passes for 40 yards. Owners who start White are asking to lose.
