Fantasy Football Sleepers 2013: Terrelle Pryor and Players Worth Roster Spots

Kyle NewportSep 3, 2013

With the NFL season just days away, fantasy football owners should consider having Terrelle Pryor and other sleepers on their rosters.

Drafting superstars in the first few rounds can carry a team throughout the season, but the sleepers can win tight games with big performances.

These are players who will either fall in drafts or will be available to pick up in free agency.

Let's check out who joins Terrelle Pryor on the list of sleepers to take a chance on.

Terrelle Pryor, QB, Oakland Raiders

No, the Oakland Raiders aren't going to be competitive this season. They play in the weak AFC West, but they are part of the problem.

Darrius Heyward-Bey is now gone, although he wasn't much of a threat when he was in Oakland. Now the Raiders will have to rely on young receivers to try to move the ball. Jacoby Ford and Denarius Moore are quality options on the outside.

Matt Flynn and Pryor have been in a quarterback competition this offseason, and Pryor has won the job, according to Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle (h/t Ian Rapoport of NFL.com).

Pryor is worth a roster spot because he is a dual-threat quarterback who can make plays. The 6'6" quarterback is built to take hits and uses his feet to move the football. With the read-option taking over the league, it's the perfect opportunity to let Pryor get some action.

He completed 62 percent of his passes in college, which shows that he can get the ball to his receivers. He will still need to work on his accuracy in the NFL, but Pryor gives the Raiders the best chance to move the football.

Pryor is a strong player who can break tackles and pick up extra yards on the ground. He has shown off his skills in the preseason. Unless you have Peyton Manning or another elite quarterback, grab Pryor and put him in the lineup when the Raiders give him a start.

Montee Ball, RB, Denver Broncos

Gray Caldwell of DenverBroncos.com has the Broncos' depth chart, and Ronnie Hillman is listed as the starting running back. That shouldn't keep owners from grabbing Montee Ball.

The rookie should take over at some point this season, so pick him up before anyone else does.

He ran for 4,749 yards and 73 touchdowns over the final three seasons of his career at Wisconsin. He also protects the ball better than most young running backs. It took him 802 carries before he lost a fumble as a Badger.

Peyton Manning will use Wes Welker, Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker to get the ball down the field. Ball may be called upon to pound the ball in when the team gets near the goal line. The rookie should also get plenty of carries when the Broncos are trying to run out the clock in the fourth quarter.

He isn't the starting running back yet, but it's only a matter of time before he gets the majority of the carries in Denver.

Tyler Eifert, TE, Cincinnati Bengals

Cincinnati upgraded its offense through the draft by grabbing Tyler Eifert and Giovani Bernard. Grabbing either player would be a smart move, and Eifert could find himself having a big rookie season.

A.J. Green is a stud at receiver and will put up big numbers. Jermaine Gresham is a Pro Bowler at tight end. However, the Bengals need more players to step up on offense.

Eifert has the talent to be the man that steps up for the team. The Bengals are going to use Gresham and Eifert on the field together and create mismatches to help move the ball.

The tight end has good size, hands and speed for his position. He's going to be a physical player who can give Andy Dalton an option to throw to in the middle of the field. Dalton is better when he throws short routes, so Eifert can stay within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage and get some catches.

Eifert has the ability to line up at tight end or even at receiver. He gives Dalton another option near the goal line, so pick him up before someone else takes him. When your starting tight end has a bye week, Eifert will be a very capable backup.
