10 Instagram Accounts Every New York Rangers Fan Should Follow

Jameson SempeyAug 10, 2013

Players aren't the only ones that should be preparing for the 2013-14 NHL season.

Fans need to get ready, too. You might have all your favorite New York Rangers blogs bookmarked, maybe you've started following important beat writers on Twitter or have been reading offseason columns in the papers.

So that's it, right?

Wrong. If you've ever wondered what players do before and after games, what their offseason lives are like and what Rangers prospects are up to, you might want to get on Instagram and start following these accounts.

The New York Rangers Official Instagram: @nyrangers

1 of 11

The official Instagram account for the Rangers features plenty of public relations-type material, but that doesn't mean fans shouldn't enjoy it.

You'll find photos from Rangers that stopped in at youth hockey camps, birthday updates, still frames of Tweets between players and more.

There may not be anything super insightful in relation to the off-the-ice lives of Rangers players, but the account is updated almost daily. It's the perfect place to start for an Instagram novice.

Henrik Lunqvist: @hank30nyr

2 of 11

Following Henrik Lundqvist's account on Instagram is like following a rock star. There are fast cars, walls full of guitars, courtside seats, high-fashion nights out and late night television appearances.

There's also goalie mask art and a little bit of hockey, too.

Following King Henrik gives insight to some of the perks of living like a King.

Brad Richards: @brichards_1991

3 of 11

He survived the buyout axe this offseason. Next year will make or break the rest of Richards career.

For a front row seat to what things are like through his eyes, Instagram is the place to go.

Richards posts almost daily. His photos paint a picture of what a highly paid athlete eats and drinks. His account provides insight into his hobbies and daily activities. If there's a must-follow on this list, Richards is it.

Mats Zuccarello: @matszuccarello

4 of 11

If there was one thing to learn from how Rangers players interact and post on social media, it's that apparently, Carl Hagelin and Mats Zuccarello have become good buds.

There are a handful of photos on each player's account that show them hanging out, whether it's at a live music event or out biking.

Zuccarello's account is an interesting look at life for a non-North American Ranger. His photos include several from back in Norway, offseason training and the Rangers locker room.

Carl Hagelin: @carlhags

5 of 11

Not as active as the other Rangers on Instagram, Hagelin tends to post photos you could probably find elsewhere on the internet. Not many of them are originals.

His most interesting post yet was in July, when he asked fans to chime in on what he should do with his hair.

The Swedish left winger has only been on Instagram since January, and his activity has increased this offseason. Maybe he'll be more active in 2013-14.

The Hartford Wolf Pack Official Instagram Page: @hartford_wolfpack

6 of 11

Fresh off of a the transition back to being called the Hartford Wolf Pack from the Connecticut Whale, there hasn't exactly been a ton of opportunities for the team to post on Instagram.

When the season begins, I'm sure there will be a lot of activity though. When that happens, you won't want to miss it.

Dylan McIlrath: @dylan_mcilrath

7 of 11

Dylan McIlrath quickly established himself as a leader in Hartford last season, and his Instagram account backs it up. You can find photos of him and other top players on the Whale last season, like forwards Christian Thomas and Ryan Bourque.

McIlrath has a chance to crack the Rangers roster out of the preseason, but he's a long shot with all of the depth the team has.

What's more likely is he'll spend at least the start of the year in the system, establishing himself as a top shutdown defenseman in the AHL. If that happens, you can be sure following his account will charm you with nice access to what's going on with the Rangers' minor league affiliate.

Andrew Yogan: @andrewyogan

8 of 11

You have to go back a few months to find any good photos that could give you an idea of what life on the farm is like for the Rangers prospects in Hartford.

But if that's something you'd like to get, follow prospect Andrew Yogan and wait for the season to get going. He's bound to post some fun stuff, like the photo of he and former Rangers defenseman Matt Gilroy out bowling.

Scott Stajcer: @staj40

9 of 11

Scott Stajcer could split his time between Hartford and the Rangers ECHL affiliate in Greenville, S.C. next year, but you can count on him being active on social media.

He keeps his Instagram followers updated with throwbacks in his hockey career, post-surgery hot dogs and days spent by the pool.

Brady Skjei: @bradyskjei

10 of 11

Drafted in the late first round of the 2012 NHL Draft, Brady Skjei is a poster child of the U.S. hockey development program and how far it's come.

Skjei is entering his second season with the Minnesota Gophers.

His Instagram account has a nice flow of hockey photos and snaps from his personal life.

Following the 19-year-old is a great way for any fan to get an idea of what it's like to be an NHL prospect playing in U.S. development camps and the WCHA.

Other Notable Instagram Accounts

11 of 11

RW Josh Nicholls: @jnicks20

Nicholls signed with the Rangers in March. Viewed as a project prospect, he's relatively active on Instagram. His photos range from selfie and food nonsense, to hockey-related greatness.

G Marty Biron: @MartyBiron43

For someone as media savvy as Biron, you'd think he'd have more than three photos. I guess you never know when he could start posting more often, and you'd hate to miss it when he does.

D Tommy Hughes: @hughtomes

Hughes is as active as anyone on Instagram, but most of it is about what's going on off-the-ice. Nightlife, Xbox and food highlight things, with a hockey Tweet sprinkled in here and there. He's expected to join the Wolf Pack next season and could be a great account to follow to help keep tabs on what's going on in Hartford.

RW Ryan Graves: @ryangraves27

Around the time Graves was drafted by the Rangers in the fourth round, he popped up on Instagram. He only has one photo uploaded to date, but there's hope he may become more active and give fans an idea of what it's like being in the Rangers pipeline.

LW Jason Wilson: @sirjwilly

Wilson's photos are kind of bro-ish. More than half of the content on his account is not related to his life or hockey. Follower discretion is advised.

C Cristoval 'Boo' Nieves: @boonieves

Drafted in the second round of the 2012 NHL draft, the Michigan State forward is an interesting prospect for Rangers fans to follow. He documents his life as a college hockey player often. Where he figures into the future of the Rangers is unclear at this point, but that shouldn't stop you from following him.

MSG Networks: @msgnetworks

The official account for MSG Networks features a lot of non-Rangers content, but during the season you can see plenty of promotional ads for upcoming games.

Madison Square Garden: @madisonsquaregarden

There's mostly concert dates to be seen here, but every once in awhile they post historic dates in Blueshirts history.

Director of Fan Development Rick Nadeau: @ricknadeau

Nadeau is more active on Twitter, but as you can see from the few photos he has, he can provide a cool behind-the-scenes look at Rangers events.
