Wimbledon 2013 TV Schedule: Viewing Info for Bartoli vs. Lisicki Women's Final

Tim DanielsJun 3, 2018

When the first ball was tossed at Wimbledon nearly two weeks ago, the likelihood of a women's final featuring Marion Bartoli and Sabine Lisicki was microscopic. Yet, six rounds of upset-laden play later one of them is going to emerge as a major champion.

They took far different roads to the final. The draw played out far better for Bartoli, who crushed Kirsten Flipkens in the semifinals. Lisicki navigated a star-studded journey, including the upset of the tournament over Serena Williams in the fourth round.

That said, they both ended up in the same place and are now one victory away from a Wimbledon title. Here's a look at all the key viewing information for the championship match, followed by the biggest key for each player in the final.

Bartoli: Return Game

Bartoli has reached the final by using an aggressive style of play, especially in the return game. She steps inside the baseline, takes the ball early and attempts to take control of the point right away, instead of conceding that edge to the opponent.

Few players utilize such a high-risk, high-reward approach on both serves. Many will step in on the slower second serve, but Bartoli is willing to take the chance more often. When she's returning well, it's a huge weapon.

She can't change her mindset now. Lisicki is a very good server, as illustrated when she basically went serve for serve with Williams in the aforementioned upset. She's going to put a lot of pressure on Bartoli with her first serves.

Bartoli can't let that change her game plan. Her only chance of winning the match is if she's the aggressor throughout and doesn't fall into a defensive trap like she has in the past. She must take the serves early and hope to put the heat on Lisicki.

Lisicki: Consistency

If Lisicki is at her best throughout the final, she wins. The weapons she has in her arsenal are more dangerous than anything Bartoli has available. Playing at that level over the course of an entire match has been an issue, however.

In both the upset of Williams and her semifinal victory over Agnieszka Radwanska, Lisicki went through rough stretches. Each time it allowed her opponent back into the match and she was lucky to recover in time to survive and advance.

That can't happen in the final. Bartoli has been terrific during her run to the final, not dropping a set in the process. If Lisicki leaves the door open, there's little doubt the Frenchwoman will take full advantage.

On a positive note, Lisicki should have learned from those prior experiences. She needs to keep her energy level up from start to finish. As long as that happens, it's hard to imagine Bartoli coming up with enough big shots to beat her.
