NHL Rumors: Latest Chatter Surrounding Ryane Clowe, Rob Scuderi and More
The NHL free-agency period is in full swing as teams can officially offer contracts on Friday.
A number of notable names have already shook hands and agreed to change locations, but plenty of other big names are still available who can sign this July.
Here we'll take a closer look at the latest buzz surrounding some potential NHL movers.
Ryane Clowe Close to Becoming a Devil?
The New Jersey Devils are close to landing free-agent right winger Ryane Clowe this July, according to NorthJersey.com's Tom Gulitti:
"Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello has promised to be “participating as much as anybody” and a source indicated that there’s a strong possibility Rangers left wing Ryane Clowe wil be a Devil after noon today.
"
Gulitti adds that the potential acquisition of Clowe could mean the end of the David Clarkson era in New Jersey. Clarkson led the Devils with 15 goals last season.
The 30-year-old Clowe recorded 19 points last season (three goals and 16 assists). He was traded to the New York Rangers from the San Jose Sharks midseason and made two postseason appearances for New York.
Clowe has 104 goals and 175 assists to his name through eight NHL seasons.
Rob Scuderi Facing a Tough Decision
Veteran Los Angeles Kings defenseman Rob Scuderi has a tough decision to make this summer, and according to ESPN The Magazine senior writer Craig Custance via Twitter, the 34-year-old is still reviewing all of his options:
Scuderi has played the past four seasons in LA, helping the Kings win the Stanley Cup in 2011-12.
The New York native has been remarkably consistent and durable during his time in the league, making him a coveted defensive piece this offseason. Keep in mind that Scuderi has missed just nine regular-season games since heading West to LA in 2009.
Having won a championship in LA and Pittsburgh, it's no surprise that Scuderi is a wanted man this summer.
Flyers Pushing Hard to Land Ray Emery?
The Philadelphia Flyers need a netminder, and Ray Emery could potentially be their guy, according to Flyers beat writer Frank Seravalli via Twitter:
Following a terrible season in the crease, the Flyers bought out the remaining seven years on Ilya Bryzgalov's contract, opening up a spot in goal.
Emery started 19 games for the Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks last season, going 17-1 with a 1.94 goals-against average during the regular season. Emery was a spectator during the Hawks' playoff run, though, as Corey Crawford led Chicago to the promised land.
Philadelphia ranked 22nd in the NHL last season in goals against, surrendering nearly three per game. Therefore, securing a top-flight goalie is high on the Flyers' offseason to-do list.
