The Matchups
Novak Djokovic (1) vs. Juan Martin del Potro (8)
Friday's most anticipated men's semifinal clash will pit 2011 Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic against former U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro.
The two men have met 11 times in the past, with Djokovic leading the head-to-head 8-3.
But don't be so quick to count Delpo out. He's in the midst of a magical run at the moment, and knocked off Djokovic in their most recent matchup at Indian Wells last March, beating the Serb on his preferred service.
Plus, Delpo won their only grass-court meeting at Wimbledon a year ago, topping Djokovic in straight sets to win the bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Coming into Friday's semifinal, neither player has dropped a set through the first five rounds, and both are in top form. In addition, both Djokovic and del Potro are serving lights out, striking winners consistently and keeping their unforced errors to a minimum.
Djokovic appears to have the edge with Delpo running around on a less-than-100-percent left knee, but picking a winner is nearly impossible given how strong both men have been up to this point.
Andy Murray (2) vs. Jerzy Janowicz (24)
Andy Murray is just one win away from returning to the Wimbledon final. But standing in his way is the powerful, 6'8" Jerzy Janowicz, who has looked incredibly dangerous through the first five rounds of play at SW19.
A reigning Grand Slam champion and former Wimbledon finalist, Murray will be the favorite heading in despite the fact that these two players haven't met all that often in the past.
For Janowicz, the key will be his monster serve. The Pole has been bringing it with tremendous pace and direction this summer at the All England Club. Twice he's recorded 30 aces in a match thus far, and if he can reach that mark on Friday, he'll be in a great position to win.
Murray and coach Ivan Lendl will need to devise a game plan from now until match time to neutralize the big man's serve, otherwise, the top-ranked Briton could be in trouble.
Janowicz won their most recent matchup in Paris last year, dropping the first set but then fighting back to win in three. He'll have to take three sets in order to advance this time around, but still, don't expect this match to be a walk in the park for Murray, who will have just one day to rest following an epic five-setter against Fernando Verdasco on Wednesday.
