Liverpool Transfer News: Henrikh Mkhitaryan Move Shouldn't Be Stopped by Manager
Liverpool and their fans have found a new enemy, and he is trying to preventย Henrikh Mkhitaryan from coming to Anfield.
The midfielder's manager atย Shakhtar Donetsk,ย Mircea Lucescu, recently stated that he thinks Mkhitaryan would be making a mistake by transferring to the EPL club. According to David Maddock of Mirror Football, the boss said of his player:
"It is his decision, his desire, but there is still time for him to change his mind, because I think he is making a big mistake.ย I can understand the urge to leave if he has a chance to go to a club that surpasses Shakhtar, like Barcelona or Real Madrid, but not many clubs are beyond our level - not clubs like Liverpool or Tottenham.
This place is good for him, and he is making a mistake if he thinks there are many teams above this level.
"
Obviously, this is a last-chance effort by Lucescu to keep one of his best players from leaving. Fortunately, it does not appear as though it will help.
According to Charles Perrin of the Daily Expressย , "Liverpool are on the cusp of signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan after agreeing to a ยฃ25m fee with Shakhtar for the player."
This is certainly better news than the club has received recently. In June, Maddock had reported that the transfer negotiations had been held up by the fact that agreements had to be reached with three different parties.
However, it appears that this issue is now close to being resolved, and the 24-year-old midfielder should soon be on his way to England.
Still, this does not take away from the tactics attempted by Lucescu to keep his player. While it is true that Shakhtar competes in the Champions League almost every year, the regular competition that Liverpool face in the English Premier League is miles ahead of Ukraine's domestic leagues.
Additionally, the club has a storied history that few in Europe can match. With a young group of talented players already on the roster, it should not be long until it returns to the highest levels of the sport.
Mkhitaryan is certainly someone who can help the club reach that point. The young player is immensely talented as both a scorer and a passer, and he has improved every season with his club.
Whether or not Luis Suarez remains on the squad next year, the Armenian player will make the offense much better as it looks to secure a top-four finish in the EPL. He will also grow as a player while on the pitch with other world-class talents.
It is understandable that his former manager would do whatever it took to keep Mkhitaryan on Shakhtar. However, he is completely wrong in saying that the player is making a mistake.
In the end, these remarks should quickly be forgotten by everyone involved.
