Wimbledon Tennis 2013 Schedule: Viewer's Guide to Day 2 at All England Club

Jun 5, 2018

If Day 2 at Wimbledon is anything like the crazy opening day of play at the All England Club, it's going to be must-see TV.

French Open champion Rafael Nadal was stunned by world No. 135 Steve Darcis in a day that was marked by upsets as World No. 11 Stanislas Wawrinka and No. 5 Sara Errani also met shocking early exits.

Day 2 provides another day full of stars aiming to get off to a hot start in their quest for the Slam title. Is there another epic upset on the horizon?

Storylines to Watch

Serena Looks to Continue Dominance

Match: Serena Williams vs. Mandy Minella

Court: Centre Court (start time 1 p.m. ET)

As great as Serena Williams' career has been, she may be in the middle of her best season of all time.

She's 43-2 in singles action this season and coming off of her second career title at Roland Garros.

Considering it was her first title there since 2002, her domination on the clay was startling. She dropped just one set throughout the entire tournament and dominated Maria Sharapova in the final.

Now Williams has a 31-match win streak going into her best Slam historically. She has five titles to her name. Even though there's very little chance this match will be competitive, it's still a good one to see because her domination is incredible to watch.

Plus, it isn't likely to last long.

Novak Djokovic Looks to Win Second Slam in 2013

Match: Novak Djokovic vs. Florian Mayer

Court: Centre Court (following Williams vs. Minella at 1 p.m. ET)

Rafael Nadal already bowed out of the tournament after winning the French Open; could the heavily favored Djokovic be next?

Probably not.

The French Open has traditionally been Djokovic's worst Slam, so the fact that he made a run to the semifinals shows he's in great form. Djoker has a 32-7 career record at the All England Club and won the tournament in 2011.

He should start this campaign with a dominant win.

Can Tomas Berdych Avoid Second Straight Wimbledon Upset?

Match: Martin Klizan vs. Tomas Berdych

Court: No. 1 Court (third match)

Tomas Berdych is the No. 6 player in the world, but the Slam tournaments have not been kind to him recently.

The 27-year-old suffered a first-round loss at Roland Garros this May to Gael Monfils and met a similar fate in Wimbledon 2012 when he lost to Ernests Gulbis in last year's opening round.

This time he'll take on 23-year-old Martin Klizan. The two have no match history, but Klizan took a set from eventual champion Rafael Nadal in the second round of the 2013 French Open. This one could be interesting.
