East Player to Watch: Andrew Wiggins
Wiggins is an immensely talented young prospect that will likely claim the MVP award if he can lead the East to victory on Wednesday night.
The 6’8” star is able to play a number of positions and guard them as well, as he has the perfect mix of length and athleticism that enable him to exceed all over the court.
Because of his ability to shoot the three, create his own shot off the dribble, knife his way to the cup with an incredible ability to handle the rock and absorb contact, and much more, there is no doubting that Wiggins is a superstar in the making.
This Canadian native led Huntington Prep in West Virginia to a 30-3 record during the 2012-13 campaign and earned the Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year award for putting up 23.4 points, 11.2 rebounds, 2.6 blocks and 2.5 assists per game.
He’s yet to choose a school but will likely play for Florida State, Kansas, Kentucky or North Carolina when all is said and done.
Wiggins is going to have fans of those programs salivating after they see his stuff in this all-star showcase.
West Player to Watch: Jabari Parker
Parker is likely to be starting at small forward for the West, so he’s going to have his hands full trying to contain Wiggins on defense and impose his will on the other end.
However, this 6’8” swingman out of Simeon in Chicago will be looking to impress the hometown crowd by showing off his elite basketball IQ, top-notch decision-making and pure scoring ability.
This unselfish phenom is willing to sacrifice his personal numbers to make everyone around him better, a large reason why he’s been a starter on four state championship teams and won two Illinois Mr. Basketball Awards during his career.
Don’t sleep on Parker bringing his “A” game to the McDonald’s All-American contest and showing the world why Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski made a hard push to land this up-and-coming star.
Blue Devils fans will be happy to have him on their squad for the upcoming season.
Prediction: East Wins
While the West roster may be deeper, basketball is all about star power and having the best of the best—look no further than the Miami Heat for proof.
The East is superior in that regard, with top prospect Wiggins at the 3 and the No. 2 prospect in the nation, Julius Randle, manning the 4.
Add in Indiana commit Noah Vonleh and Powerade Jam Fest winner Chris Walker and you are looking at a team that is going to be tough to beat on Wednesday.
While Parker, the Harrison twins (Andrew and Aaron) and Aaron Gordon are going to put up some resistance, we just don’t see them pulling it out against the superior stars.
