Behind Matthew Dellavedova's 22 points, Saint Mary's emerged victorious by a score of 67-54.
Middle Tennessee fought, but Dellavedova was simply masterful. The Australian point guard converted five three-pointers—more than the entire Middle Tennessee team—and tallied six rebounds and four assists in the process.
Stephen Holt added 18 points, while Beau Levesque dropped 13.
Marcos Knight led the Blue Raiders, finishing with 16 points, six assists and six rebounds. Unfortunately, they simply couldn't compare to the Gaels' three-point shooting.
St. Mary's shot 57.1 percent from beyond the arc and moves on to an upset opportunity against Memphis.

La Salle will now move on to play No. 4 Kansas State during the round of 64 in the West Region. Although underdogs, the Explorers have built up a significant amount of momentum.
Can they pull it off?
No. 16 North Carolina A&T Aggies over No. 16 Liberty Flames
3 of 4Final Score: 73-72
Date: Tuesday, Mar. 19
Next Opponent: No. 1 Louisville Cardinals, Midwest Region
For the first—and unlikely to be last—time during the NCAA tournament, we witnessed a game decided by one point. The contest consisted of the North Carolina A&T Aggies and the Liberty Flames.
When it was all said and done, a missed Liberty layup with two seconds remaining sealed the deal for North Carolina A&T.
The Aggies were led by Jeremy Underwood, who scored 19 points on a perfect 6-of-6 shooting. Bruce Beckford added 16 points and nine rebounds on 8-of-10 shooting.
It doesn't get much more efficient than that from your top two scorers.
As for Liberty, Davon Marshall scored 22 points and John Caleb Sanders dropped 21. Tavares Speaks added 17 of his own, but the scoring wasn't enough.
North Carolina A&T now moves on to play overall No. 1 seed Louisville.
No. 16 James Madison over No. 16 LIU Brooklyn
4 of 4Final Score: 68-55
Date: Wednesday, Mar. 20
Next Opponent: No. 1 Indiana, East Region
With a No. 16 seed on the line in the East Region, the James Madison Dukes took on the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds. Neither team gave an inch early, but in the end, it was the Dukes who emerged victorious.
A dominant second-half defensive performance was a major reason for James Madison's success.
A.J. Davis dropped 20 points, while Charles Cooke contributed 15 points. The most dominant performer on James Madison was Andre Nation, who tallied 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists and five blocks.
This two-way dominance was enough to keep LIU Brooklyn at bay.
As for LIU Brooklyn, Jamal Olasewere finished with 20 points. That included a marvelous left-handed dunk which nearly took the roof off.
In the end, however, it was James Madison that emerged victorious. The Dukes will now move on to play Indiana in the round of 64.
A daunting task, but a marvelous victory, nonetheless.
