Atlantic 10 Tournament 2013 Bracket: Seeds, Matchups and More

Richard LangfordMar 11, 2013

The St. Bonaventure Bonnies won't be back to try and defend their Atlantic 10 tournament title. After a stunning loss to the Fordham Rams, the Bonnies finished at 7-9 and just missed out on this 12-team tourney.

This tournament may lack the defending champion, but it is packed with the potential for some great matchups.

This conference boasts two top-25 teams and five teams that warrant consideration for inclusion in the NCAA tournament.

Top Contenders

No. 1: Saint Louis Billikens (24-6, RPI: 27)

This season got off to an emotional start for St. Louis. Health woes of head coach Rick Majerus led to him stepping away from the team in November and eventually his tragic passing in December.

The beloved coach would certainly be proud of what his team was able to accomplish this season.

Current head coach Jim Crews has done a great job with Saint Louis. He has the team rolling in as the tournament's top seed after a 13-3 conference record landed them on top of the conference.

The Billikens are on fire. They enter this tournament having won 12 of their last 13 games. During that stretch, junior forward Dwayne Evans has been fantastic. He has scored double figures in each game of that stretch, and he has at least six boards in all but two of those games.

No. 2: Virginia Commonwealth Rams (24-6, RPI: 25)

VCU is becoming a March mainstay. Shaka Smart has taken this program to new heights.

This year's squad has turned in a solid season. However, after having won 13 straight, the Rams closed the regular season by going 8-4.

That is still solid basketball, but it doesn't suggest the kind of consistency needed to win a tournament like this. Yet, it would be kind of silly to count out Smart and the Rams in a tournament setting like this.

The Rams have a high-powered offense that finished 11th in the nation in points scored. Sophomore guard Treveon Graham and junior forward Juvonte Reddic lead the way for the Rams. The two combine for 30 points and 14.1 rebounds per game.

No. 3: Temple Owls (22-8, RPI: 36)

Temple closed out the season strong, winning their final seven games and beating VCU by eight in the regular-season finale.

The Owls should also have to be supremely motivated. This squad is no lock for the NCAA tournament. They will want to avoid the stress of having to worry about those concerns with a good run here.

Given their strong finish and senior guard Khalif Wyatt, I like the Owls chances to go deep.

Wyatt is the A-10's leading scorer at 19.5 points per game. He also leads the team in assists at 4.1.
