AP College Basketball Poll 2013: Complete Week 18 Standings Released
History has been made in the AP College Basketball Rankings.
For the first time in school history, the Gonzaga Bulldogs, everyone's favorite underdog not that long ago, have reached the apex of the Top 25. It took a series of events to get to this point, and being No. 1 has not been good for anyone this season, but it is still amazing to see where this team is.
Some would argue against Gonzaga being in this spot. The team does boast a strong 29-2 record, with its regular season over. However, Gonzaga's two losses came in its two biggest games against Illinois and Butler.

The Bulldogs' strength of schedule ranks just 94th in college basketball this season. Despite all of that, this team has been rewarded for its efforts on the court and has taken over the No. 1 spot in the rankings.
It also helped Gonzaga's case that everyone around it lost last week. Indiana fell to Minnesota, Duke dropped a game at Virginia, Miami lost at Duke and Michigan beat Michigan State after losing at Penn State.
Indiana fell to No. 2, Duke stayed put at No. 3, Miami dropped to No. 6 and Michigan to No. 7 this week.
Gonzaga's first-ever ascent to the No. 1 ranking ends Indiana's four-week stay. The Bulldogs are the fifth team to reach No. 1 status this year.
Basically, all of this is to say that the rankings tell us nothing, and the more you try to predict what happens in college basketball, the more you will be scratching your head.
Fans will be paying closer attention to what goes on this week as conference tournaments begin. It is time to start figuring out what you are going to do with your brackets after Selection Sunday on March 17.
