Bengals: Another Convict Heading For Cincinnati

Tank Johnson a defensive tackle, was released by the Dallas Cowboys and is heading to Cincinnati to play for the Bengals.

If you just read that opening line some may think “well great they are trying to improve the defensive line.” No, this move has more controversy behind it.

Not only did Tank have a past with the Bears and Cowboys, he’s had a past with the law.

In November 2005, Johnson gets arrested for possession of a firearm. In February 2006, he was charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest while still on probation. In December 2006, they find six firearms, including two assault rifles. While that search was going on they found marijuana with his body guard.

I understand the Bengals need to improve the defensive line, but they go out and grab another Chris Henry?

They are supposed to be learning from past mistakes not making all new ones. I’d rather them spend an arm and a leg for Albert Haynesworth.

Last season they resign Chris Henry, and they add Cedric Benson who has had two DUI’s. Now this season they already get someone as bad as Chris Henry? What’s after this?

Will they get Michael Vick right out of prison, and add Pacman Jones to the mix?

This is not a smart move by the Bengals, and the only way it turns into a smart move is if he becomes a breakout player which I highly doubt. He played well in the Superbowl, and recorded five sacks one season, but five sacks is not worth the potential trouble he brings to Cincinnati.

The Bengals biggest problem is their best players are rarely on the field. They’ve had most on injured reserve and haven’t been prone to players being arrested.

They really need to take in consideration what they have done and make a great decision come draft time. Drafting a troubled player like Andre Smith after signing Tank Johnson will completely tarnish any good feelings fans have left for this team.
