Blake Griffin To Enter NBA Draft

Kevin RobertsApr 7, 2009

Oklahoma sophomore forward, Blake Griffin, has announced that he will forgo his final two years of eligibility, and enter the 2009 NBA Draft.

Griffin was a consistent and solid performer as a freshman for the Sooners, averaging a double-double and taking the nation by storm right out of the gates.

However, his freshman success was quickly overshadowed by the success of several one-and-done freshmen players, such as O.J. Mayo, Eric Gordon, and Michael Beasley.

Griffin stayed on for a second year to polish his game, and quickly became a household name at the start of the 2008 NCAA season.

Griffin ended his second season at Oklahoma with over 22 points and 14 rebounds per game, while shooting over 65% from the field. He also played a big part in leading the surprisingly balanced Sooners to the Elite Eight, where they finally lost to the eventual champions, North Carolina Tar Heels.

Griffin's size and out-of-this-world athleticism have him as the clear-cut favorite to be the number one pick in June.

The general consensus is that there will be a learning curve, as there is for most rookies, but Griffin is already in a league of his own so far away from the other prospects, that it wouldn't be surprising to see him excel immediately.

Blake Griffin is joined by Kentucky guard, Jodie Meeks, on the early-entry list, which is far from being completed, as many high-profile names have yet to decide on their futures. Both players have the option of withdrawing their names before the June 15 deadline, providing they do not hire an agent.
