Random Thoughts on Weekend No. 1 of March Madness
Below are some random thoughts I had from the first weekend of the NCAA tourney. Care to add? I would love to hear your thoughts as well.
I officially hate the University of Arizona. Every year, they screw me. In previous years, I have picked them to go to the Elite 8 or the Final Four and they lose in the first round. This year, although they were a great upset pick, I said no way, Arizona is doing it to me again and picked them to lose to Utah. Of course, they did it to me again!
Do you laugh hysterically when the announcers bring up what these players are majoring in at their respective institutions? I mean, Cal State Northridge’s graduation rate is at a whopping eight percent and they are talking about the point guard and how he is majoring in communications…
Why is it that teams always rely on a high-pick and-roll or four-low for their end of the half/end of the game possessions? Is a play not allowed to be run at these times?
Is it me or are there waaaay too many names with apostrophes in this year’s tournament?
The tournament is much more exciting when a Cinderella like Davidson makes a run.
I don’t mean to jump into politics, but isn’t Coach K right about Obama and his picks? Shouldn’t he be spending more time on the economy versus his March Madness picks? I mean, I took five minutes out of my day for the picks and he took an hour to film with ESPN. I know I am important, but not as important as him. Also, for spending so much time with his picks, shouldn’t he have done better? I mean, he is in 2,167,290 place right now on ESPN.com. My 8-year-old female cousin is dominating him in our pool.
Why don’t more teams foul earlier at the end of games to extend the game? For example, USC was down four to Michigan State with just under a minute to play and MSU had the ball. They decided to play defense and get a stop versus fouling right away. I could understand if it is a two or three point game, but not a two-possession game. Fouling creates an opportunity for more possessions, which is what you need at that point. Extend the game.
