Diamonds In The Rough: The NCAA's Best You've Never Heard Of.

Mj OctiganMar 12, 2009

Yes, we have all heard of and seen the great basketball play of Tyler Hansbrough, Blake Griffin, Stephen Curry, and DeJuan Blair. But if you look deep into the heart of NCAA basketball you will see better players, that might even exceed the skills of today's greats.

One of those players is University of Tennessee-Martin Guard, Lester Hudson. Hudson has trailed behind Curry all season in the points department but has really showed the great basketball heart.

UT-Martin has pretty much gone unnoticed all season, and so has their star player. Hudson has easily averaged 27.3 PPG only about a point behind leader Curry. Hudson has also posted 7.8 RPG in the books.

Blake Griffin or John Bryant. Most people would say Griffin, but most people dont' know who John Bryant is. Bryant is an all around great player for an all around not so great team.

Santa Clara's Bryant is tied for the lead in the rebounds category with Oklahoma's Blake Griffin with 14.2 per game. Bryant also adds to his powerful resume 18.1 PPG and 2.5 blocks per game.

John Bryant is a dominant center that competes with some of the best in the NCAA. his rebound totals are high and he is a powerful scorer. He sounds like many of the top centers in the league.

Northern Arizona's Shane Johannsen, a guy who pretty much hits all of his shots. Johannsen his not the most dominate guy in the NCAA, but he is quite consistent. Johannsen hits about 72.7 percent of his shots(1st in the NCAA), but only averages 9.9 PPG barely puts up any steals of assists.

Johnathon Jones is quite the dish man. A junior guard who really like his teammates, but on occasion likes to score. Jones leads the NCAA in assists with 7.8 per game.

His talent has really paid, in his teams success, but Oakland would lose a heart breaker to NDSU in the Summit Championships. Jones also scores a decent 13.6 points per game, which isn't bad for an assist man.

Yes, these players are talented, but why does their talent go unnoticed. I believe it is all based on the media. A lot of the historically good teams get the media, But what about the UT-Martin's and the Oakland's not to mention their great players, what is next for them?
