College Basketball: Indiana Tops Historic USA TODAY Coaches Poll for Big Ten
The day that really marks the official start of the college basketball season in the minds of plenty of fans has come today.
The first USA Today Coaches poll was released this afternoon, and the Indiana Hoosiers and coach Tom Crean top the list. The Hoosiers garnered 21 first place votes, while No. 2 Louisville and No. 3 Kentucky received five each.

The Big Ten led the way with five teams in the poll, including three of the top five spots with Indiana, Ohio State and Michigan. It was the first time in the history of the poll that three Big Ten teams were ranked in the top five of the initial rankings.
There were also five teams from mid-major conferences, perhaps setting the stage for another Cinderella run come March.
