WWE.com has confirmed what many have seen coming for quite some time. Kelly Kelly, real name Barbie Blank, has been released from her contract as of today.

Here is the official statement WWE made on their website.

WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE Diva Kelly Kelly as of today, September 28, 2012. WWE wishes Kelly Kelly the best in all her future endeavors.

Kelly has been used very sparingly in recent months, and the Divas division has been less than fruitful for the beautiful Barbie Blank.

With Kelly beginning to take more modelling jobs outside of WWE, it seemed like her exit from the company had been all but foreshadowed.

After she asked for time off it was speculated that it could be the first step towards her departure from the company.

Kelly was arguably WWE's top Diva in many ways. While she was not the one always holding the title she was usually saddled with most of the media and charity appearances.

It should come as no surprise to anyone that WWE would utilize one of their most gorgeous women in this way. She was on the Maxim Hot 100 after all.

Now that Kelly is gone there is room at the top for another Diva to step up and fill the void left by her departure.

This person will be the go-to Diva for charity appearances, press conferences and interviews with local media when WWE is touring.

In many ways, we have already seen Eve Torres begin to fill this role in recent months.

Eve is just as attractive as Kelly, but she has a few things going for her that Kelly did not have.

Eve is someone who appeals to almost everyone because she has several qualities about her that you don't always get combined in one Diva.

For one, she is not the typical skin-and-bones model we sometimes see. Eve is an athletic woman with a physique that only comes from hard work and dedication.

Do not take that to mean Kelly is not also athletic. She just does not have that athlete's quality Eve has to her in terms of her build, but Kelly is an accomplished athlete as well.

One thing Eve has that many Divas seem to lack is the ability to be entertaining and engaging on the mic. Much of her recent push can be attributed to her being an all-around performer.

Eve has also really stepped up her game in the ring by adding more athletic moves to her arsenal as well as employing a few submissions she never used to use.

Eve is also doing a lot of the media and charity appearances for WWE on top of the touring schedule she has, which must be a full-time job in itself.

Ms. Torres has always been known to be one of the biggest supporters of the troops in WWE. She can always be seen during WWE's visits to bases and the Tribute to the Troops shows.

She also recently won the reality show Stars Earn Stripes, which pitted celebrities against one another in military training exercises to see who held up the best.

Watching her surprise the military officers who were there to help them with her ability was really great to see.

The charity she chose to compete for on S.E.S. was the USO, an organization WWE has been involved with heavily over the years.

As the current Divas champion, we can expect to see Eve more over the next few weeks, especially since she is still Booker's assistant on SmackDown.

When you really look at the situation, Eve has already stepped up as the top Diva recently. All she has to do is keep doing what she is doing, and she will have a long, successful career in WWE.

What do you think?

Is Eve the go-to Diva now or will someone like AJ or Layla step up and fill that void?
