Week 2 NFL Picks: Opening Week Winners Set to Collapse on the Road

Patrick ClarkeJun 7, 2018

The jubilation of opening the season with a win won't last long for some teams in 2012, as Week 2 presents some nightmarish challenges for them away from home.

Whether going into hostile territory, facing off against a high-powered offense or simply being over-matched, these teams won't be walking away from Week 2 with the same feeling that followed Week 1.

Here are three Week 1 home winners set to collapse on the road this weekend.

Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals will travel across the country to take on the New England Patriots in Foxborough on Sunday. Arizona found a way to hold on against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1, but Tom Brady and the Pats pose a much larger challenge.

New England rushed for 162 yards in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans, and boasts a complete offensive threat with a future Hall of Famer dropping back to pass as well.

Arizona's offense won't be much help, either. It only accounted for 253 total yards in Week 1.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Although Tampa Bay held the Carolina Panthers to just 10 rushing yards in the team's Week 1 win, the Bucs gave up nearly 300 yards through the air.

Unfortunately for the Bucs, they will hit the road to take on the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants in Week 2, who love to pass and are upset after losing their home opener to division rival the Dallas Cowboys.

Tampa is sure to receive a massive dose of Eli Manning, Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz on Sunday afternoon, which will result in a blowout loss on the road.

Detroit Lions

The Lions looked extremely shaky in their last-minute win over the St. Louis Rams—who won just two games in total last season—at home in Week 1.

Meanwhile, Week 2 opponent the San Francisco 49ers looked like the NFC Super Bowl favorite in an impressive win over the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field last weekend.

Detroit will travel to the Bay Area this Sunday night to take on Jim Harbaugh's Niners, but won't be leaving with a win. San Francisco went 7-1 at home in 2011, and has won six consecutive regular season home games overall.

Look for the 49ers' ground game to wear down the Lions defense on the road. San Francisco rushed for 186 yards in Week 1, the second most of any team in the NFL in opening week.
