NFL Power Rankings: Explosive Teams Ready to Enter Top 10
Week 1 NFL power rankings aren't going to come close to resembling Week 2's version.
I just needed to get that out there. As the season wears on and most of your fantasy teams' prospects have gone down the drain, we'll have a better idea of how the rankings will look from week to week.
But the first few weeks are more or less a crapshoot.

Colts Release Kenny Moore

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Some free-agent signings pan out. Some late-round rookies produce right away. Some early-round rookies don't. Some guys don't mesh with teammates like we thought they would. Injuries happen.
To put it more simply: Things that no one will see coming will completely shake up the rankings. Count on it.
With that being said, here's a look at some high-powered offenses I expect to see in the top 10 within the next few weeks.
Detroit Lions (Currently No. 11)
The biggest question mark for this team, of course, is Kellen Moore.
The third-string quarterback who will see somewhere between zero and seven snaps this season has really seen his game improve during exhibition play, and how he continues to work on his game will be a huge factor in whether or not the Lions can make it to the Super Bowl.
Just kidding (or am I?).
The real factor is the defense, which was atrocious at times in 2011. Considering how the Lions often looked on that side of the ball, newer is always better.
That's why the additions of Erik Coleman and Bill Bentley to the secondary along with a talented front four that should improve has me drinking the Lions kool-aid. The linebackers aren't all that impressive, but I see development on defense nonetheless.
Development is all you need when you have Matthew Stafford throwing to Calvin Johnson, Nate Burleson, Titus Young and rookie Ryan Broyles (good lord) on the other side of the ball.
Dallas Cowboys (Currently No. 15)
'Holy moly is Dallas' first team stacked.
On offense, you have Tony Romo throwing to Miles Austin, Dez Bryant and—eventually—Jason Witten when he doesn't want to hand it off to DeMarco Murray, arguably the most explosive young back in the league not named LeSean.
On defense, the front four isn't spectacular, but Sean Lee was a manimal in 2011, DeMarcus Ware is downright scary for opposing quarterbacks and the secondary is much better with the additions of Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne.
The depth on this team, however, is not so, well, deep. Call this a prediction that the Cowboys stay healthy.
Carolina Panthers (Currently No. 21)
Excuse me. Is this seat taken? Oh, there's no more room? I can't even stand?
It would appear there's no more room on the Panthers bandwagon, but I'll continue anyways.
The offense is going to be just as good as the 2011 squad that dropped 409 points. Cam Newton is Superman, so there's clearly no way teams will adjust during his sophomore season. All of his weapons are still there, Mike Tolbert will ease the pressure on the goalline and Amini Silatolu adds some bulk to the offensive line.
But much like all explosive teams, the defense is far more crucial.
The Panthers gave up 429 points last season—most in franchise history—and that's not going to be solved in a year, but the addition of Luke Kuechly is going to make a ginormous difference.
Ginormous.
