Rams Trade Former 2nd Overall Pick Jason Smith to Jets
In hopes of addressing their woes at right tackle, the New York Jets have reportedly traded for Jason Smith of the St. Louis Rams, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.
Mehta tweeted on Monday:
"The Wayne Hunter deal to the Rams is now a done deal, I've been told. Jason Smith goes to the Jets. #nyj

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Hunter, of course, has been horrendous with the Jets. After giving up 8.5 sacks last season and getting flagged for 11 penalties, he was overtaken by Austin Howard at right tackle last week. Hunter is due $2.45 million guaranteed this season, per Rotoworld.com.
On the other hand, Smith—the No. 2 overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft—hasn't exactly gotten any ringing endorsements, either.
Peter King of Sports Illustrated tweeted upon the deal's announcement,
"Re the Jason Smith deal for the Jets, I won't kill it. But he was a massive disappointment to Rams. Not a competitive player.

Hey, tell us how you really feel, Peter.
The Jets likely are hoping that a change of scenery will do Smith good. If not, they will likely keep Howard at right tackle to start the season and keep Smith in a backup role.
The Jets gave up 40 sacks last season, 13th in the NFL. The Rams gave up 55 sacks, which led the league. Both could certainly use some help as far as pass protection goes, especially given their troubles at quarterback.
The Jets' quarterback tandem of Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow both threw for no touchdowns and had an interception against the Carolina Panthers their last outing, and both have yet to assert themselves as the indisputable QB1.
Logic suggests this won't be a blockbuster trade down the line, but perhaps a change of scenery will work wonders for the two underperforming linemen.
